Numbers 3:21-26

New International Version

²¹To Gershon^(A) belonged the clans of the Libnites and Shimeites;^(B) these were the Gershonite clans. ²²The number of all the males a month old or more who were counted was 7,500. ²³The Gershonite clans were to camp on the west, behind the tabernacle.^(C) ²⁴The leader of the families of the Gershonites was Eliasaph son of Lael. ²⁵At the tent of meeting the Gershonites were responsible for the care of the tabernacle^(D) and tent, its coverings,^(E) the curtain at the entrance^(F) to the tent of meeting,^(G) ²⁶the curtains of the courtyard^(H), the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard surrounding the tabernacle and altar,^(I) and the ropes^(J)—and everything^(K) related to their use.

The Descendants of Gershon

²¹The families of Libni and Shimei were descendants of Gershon. As families of the descendants of Gershon, ²²all the males a month old and above numbered 7,500. ²³The families of the descendants of Gershon encamped behind the tent toward the west.^[a] ²⁴The leader of the tribe and family of Gershon was Lael’s son Eliasaph. ²⁵The duties of the descendants of Gershon at the Tent of Meeting pertained to the tent, the tent covering, the curtain^[b] to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, ²⁶the hangings at the courtyard, the curtain at the entrance of the courtyard that surrounded the tent, the altar, and all of the tent cords in use.
