Ebibuga by’Abaleevi
35 Awo abaana ba Isirayiri bwe baali nga basiisidde mu nsenyi za Mowaabu ku mugga Yoludaani, okwolekera Yeriko, Mukama Katonda n’agamba Musa nti, 2 (A)“Lagira abaana ba Isirayiri nti bawanga Abaleevi ebibuga eby’okubeeramu, nga babiggya mu butaka bwabwe bwe baligabana obw’enkalakkalira. Era babaweerangako n’amalundiro okwetooloola ebibuga ebyo. 3 Kale, olwo balibeera n’ebibuga ebyokusulangamu, n’amalundiro ag’ente zaabwe n’endiga zaabwe, awamu n’ensolo zaabwe endala ezirundibwa.
4 “Amalundiro aganaaweebwanga Abaleevi ab’omu bibuga ebyo ganaapimwanga obugazi okuva ku bbugwe w’ekibuga mita ebikumi bina mu ataano. 5 Amalundiro ago ganaapimanga obuwanvu bwa mita lwenda ku ludda olw’ebuvanjuba, ne mita lwenda ku ludda olw’ebugwanjuba, ne mita lwenda ku luuyi olw’obukiikakkono, ne mita lwenda ku luuyi olw’obukiikaddyo, ng’ekibuga kiri wakati. Ago ge ganaabanga amalundiro gaabo ab’omu kibuga.
Ebibuga eby’Okuddukirangamu
6 (B)“Ku bibuga bye muligabira Abaleevi kugenda kubeerako ebibuga mukaaga eby’okuddukirangamu, omuntu asse omuntu nga tagenderedde. Okwo mulyoke mwongereko ebibuga amakumi ana mu bibiri. 7 Okutwalira awamu muliteekwa okugabira Abaleevi ebibuga amakumi ana mu munaana, mubagattireko n’amalundiro. 8 (C)Omuwendo gw’ebibuga bye muligabira Abaleevi gulyesigamizibwa ku bunene n’obutono obwa buli busika obw’abaana ba Isirayiri. Ab’obusika obunene muliwaayo ebibuga bingi, n’ab’obusika obutono muliwaayo ebibuga bitono.”
9 Awo Mukama Katonda n’agamba Musa nti, 10 (D)“Yogera eri abaana ba Isirayiri ng’obagamba nti, ‘Bwe musomokanga omugga Yoludaani ne muyingira mu nsi y’e Kanani, 11 (E)mweronderangamu ebibuga ebinaabanga ebibuga byammwe eby’okuddukirangamu; ng’omwo omuntu asse omuntu nga tagenderedde mw’anaddukiranga. 12 (F)Bye binaabanga ebifo eby’obuddukiro okwewala omuwoolezi w’eggwanga[a], omuntu ateeberezebwa okuba omutemu alemenga okuttibwa nga tasoose kuwozesebwa mu maaso g’ekibiina. 13 Ebibuga ebyo omukaaga bye mugenda okuwaayo bye binaabanga ebibuga byammwe eby’obuddukiro. 14 Mugenda kuwaayo ebibuga bisatu ku ludda luno olw’ebuvanjuba olwa Yoludaani, n’ebibuga bisatu mu Kanani, okubeeranga ebibuga eby’obuddukiro. 15 Abaana ba Isirayiri n’abagenyi bammwe, n’abagwira abanaabeeranga mu mmwe, mwenna munaddukiranga mu bibuga ebyo omukaaga. Kwe kugamba nti omuntu yenna anattanga omuntu nga tagenderedde anaddukiranga omwo.’
16 (G)“ ‘Omuntu bw’anaakubanga omuntu n’ekyuma n’amutta, oyo nga mutemu; era omutemu anattirwanga ddala. 17 Era omuntu bw’anaabanga akutte ejjinja mu ngalo ze, n’akuba munne n’ejjinja eryo, omutemu anattirwanga ddala. 18 Oba omuntu bw’anaabanga akutte ekyokulwanyisa eky’omuti mu ngalo ze, ekiyinza okutta omuntu, n’akikubisa munne, munne n’afa, oyo nga mutemu; era omutemu anattirwanga ddala. 19 (H)Omuwoolezi w’eggwanga yennyini y’anattanga omutemu; bw’anaamusisinkananga anaamuttanga. 20 (I)Omuntu bw’anaabangako ekiruyi ku munne n’amufumita ng’akigenderedde, olw’obukyayi, oba n’amwekwekerera n’amukasuukirira ekintu ne kimukuba ne kimutta, 21 oba olw’obulabe bw’amulinako n’amukuba ekikonde, munne n’afa, omuntu oyo amukubye ekikonde anaafanga; kubanga mutemu. Omuwoolezi w’eggwanga y’anattanga omutemu oyo ng’amusisinkanye.
22 (J)“ ‘Singa omuntu afumita munne mangwago, gw’atalinaako bulabe, oba n’akasuka ekintu nga tagenderedde ne kimukuba, 23 oba n’ayiringisa ejjinja, eriyinza okutta omuntu, ne limugwako nga tamulabye, n’afa; olwokubanga teyali mulabe we, era nga yali tagenderedde kumulumya; 24 (K)kale, olukiiko lw’ekibiina lunaasalangawo wakati we n’omuwoolezi w’eggwanga, nga lugoberera amateeka gano nga bwe gali. 25 (L)Omussi oyo olukiiko lw’ekibiina lunaamuwonyanga omuwoolezi w’eggwanga, ne lumuleka n’abeeranga mu kibuga kye eky’obuddukiro okutuusa Kabona Omukulu eyafukibwako amafuta ag’omuzeeyituuni amatukuvu ng’amaze okufa.
26 “ ‘Naye omussi oyo bwe kanaamutandanga n’afulumako mu kibuga kye eky’obuddukiro mwe yaddukira, 27 omuwoolezi w’eggwanga n’amala amusanga ebweru w’ekibuga ekyo, n’amutta, omuwoolezi w’eggwanga taabengako musango gwa butemu. 28 Kubanga omussi oyo kinaamusaaniranga okubeera mu kibuga kye eky’obuddukiro okutuusa nga Kabona Omukulu amaze okufa. Kabona Omukulu anaamalanga kufa, omussi oyo n’addayo ewuwe mu bintu bye eby’obutaka.
Amateeka ku Bujulizi n’Okununula
29 (M)“ ‘Gano ganaabeeranga mateeka gammwe ge munaakwatanga mu mirembe gyammwe gyonna ne buli we munaabeeranga. 30 (N)Omuntu bw’anattanga munne, ne wabaawo obujulizi, omutemu oyo naye anaafanga. Naye tewaabengawo attibwa ku bujulizi obw’omuntu omu yekka.
31 “ ‘Temukkirizanga mutango olw’okununula omussi asingiddwa omusango ogw’obutemu n’asalirwa okuttibwa; anaateekwanga okuttibwa.
32 “ ‘Temukkirizanga mutango ogw’okununula omussi abeera mu kibuga eky’obuddukiro, alyoke aveeyo addeyo ewuwe nga Kabona Omukulu tannaba kufa.
33 (O)“ ‘Temwonoonanga nsi gye mubeeramu. Okuyiwa omusaayi kyonoona ensi; okutangiririra ensi omuyiise omusaayi si kyangu, okuggyako ng’etangiririrwa n’omusaayi gw’oyo eyayiwa omusaayi mu nsi omwo. 34 (P)Temwonoonanga nsi mwe mubeera nange mwe mbeera, kubanga Nze, Mukama Katonda, mbeera wakati mu baana ba Isirayiri.’ ”

Cities for the Levites
35 And the Lord spoke to Moses in (A)the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho, saying: 2 (B)“Command the children of Israel that they give the Levites cities to dwell in from the inheritance of their possession, and you shall also give the Levites (C)common-land around the cities. 3 They shall have the cities to dwell in; and their common-land shall be for their cattle, for their herds, and for all their animals. 4 The common-land of the cities which you will give the Levites shall extend from the wall of the city outward a thousand cubits all around. 5 And you shall measure outside the city on the east side two thousand cubits, on the south side two thousand cubits, on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits. The city shall be in the middle. This shall belong to them as common-land for the cities.
6 “Now among the cities which you will give to the Levites you shall appoint (D)six cities of refuge, to which a manslayer may flee. And to these you shall add forty-two cities. 7 So all the cities you will give to the Levites shall be (E)forty-eight; these you shall give with their common-land. 8 And the cities which you will give shall be (F)from the possession of the children of Israel; (G)from the larger tribe you shall give many, from the smaller you shall give few. Each shall give some of its cities to the Levites, in proportion to the inheritance that each receives.”
Cities of Refuge(H)
9 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 10 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: (I)‘When you cross the Jordan into the land of Canaan, 11 then (J)you shall appoint cities to be cities of refuge for you, that the manslayer who kills any person accidentally may flee there. 12 (K)They shall be cities of refuge for you from the avenger, that the manslayer may not die until he stands before the congregation in judgment. 13 And of the cities which you give, you shall have (L)six cities of refuge. 14 (M)You shall appoint three cities on this side of the Jordan, and three cities you shall appoint in the land of Canaan, which will be cities of refuge. 15 These six cities shall be for refuge for the children of Israel, (N)for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them, that anyone who kills a person accidentally may flee there.
16 (O)‘But if he strikes him with an iron implement, so that he dies, he is a murderer; the murderer shall surely be put to death. 17 And if he strikes him with a stone in the hand, by which one could die, and he does die, he is a murderer; the murderer shall surely be put to death. 18 Or if he strikes him with a wooden hand weapon, by which one could die, and he does die, he is a murderer; the murderer shall surely be put to death. 19 (P)The[a] avenger of blood himself shall put the murderer to death; when he meets him, he shall put him to death. 20 (Q)If he pushes him out of hatred or, (R)while lying in wait, hurls something at him so that he dies, 21 or in enmity he strikes him with his hand so that he dies, the one who struck him shall surely be put to death. He is a murderer. The avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death when he meets him.
22 ‘However, if he pushes him suddenly (S)without enmity, or throws anything at him without lying in wait, 23 or uses a stone, by which a man could die, throwing it at him without seeing him, so that he dies, while he was not his enemy or seeking his harm, 24 then (T)the congregation shall judge between the manslayer and the avenger of blood according to these judgments. 25 So the congregation shall deliver the manslayer from the hand of the avenger of blood, and the congregation shall return him to the city of refuge where he had fled, and (U)he shall remain there until the death of the high priest (V)who was anointed with the holy oil. 26 But if the manslayer at any time goes outside the limits of the city of refuge where he fled, 27 and the avenger of blood finds him outside the limits of his city of refuge, and the avenger of blood kills the manslayer, he shall not be guilty of [b]blood, 28 because he should have remained in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest. But after the death of the high priest the manslayer may return to the land of his possession.
29 ‘And these things shall be (W)a statute of judgment to you throughout your generations in all your dwellings. 30 Whoever kills a person, the murderer shall be put to death on the (X)testimony of witnesses; but one witness is not sufficient testimony against a person for the death penalty. 31 Moreover you shall take no ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death, but he shall surely be put to death. 32 And you shall take no ransom for him who has fled to his city of refuge, that he may return to dwell in the land before the death of the priest. 33 So you shall not pollute the land where you are; for blood (Y)defiles the land, and no [c]atonement can be made for the land, for the blood that is shed on it, except (Z)by the blood of him who shed it. 34 Therefore (AA)do not defile the land which you inhabit, in the midst of which I dwell; for (AB)I the Lord dwell among the children of Israel.’ ”

Towns for the Levites
35 On the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho,(A) the Lord said to Moses, 2 “Command the Israelites to give the Levites towns to live in(B) from the inheritance the Israelites will possess. And give them pasturelands(C) around the towns. 3 Then they will have towns to live in and pasturelands for the cattle they own and all their other animals.(D)
4 “The pasturelands around the towns that you give the Levites will extend a thousand cubits[a] from the town wall. 5 Outside the town, measure two thousand cubits[b](E) on the east side, two thousand on the south side, two thousand on the west and two thousand on the north, with the town in the center. They will have this area as pastureland for the towns.(F)
Cities of Refuge(G)
6 “Six of the towns you give the Levites will be cities of refuge, to which a person who has killed someone may flee.(H) In addition, give them forty-two other towns. 7 In all you must give the Levites forty-eight towns, together with their pasturelands. 8 The towns you give the Levites from the land the Israelites possess are to be given in proportion to the inheritance of each tribe: Take many towns from a tribe that has many, but few from one that has few.”(I)
9 Then the Lord said to Moses: 10 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When you cross the Jordan into Canaan,(J) 11 select some towns to be your cities of refuge, to which a person who has killed someone(K) accidentally(L) may flee. 12 They will be places of refuge from the avenger,(M) so that anyone accused of murder(N) may not die before they stand trial before the assembly.(O) 13 These six towns you give will be your cities of refuge.(P) 14 Give three on this side of the Jordan and three in Canaan as cities of refuge. 15 These six towns will be a place of refuge for Israelites and for foreigners residing among them, so that anyone who has killed another accidentally can flee there.
16 “‘If anyone strikes someone a fatal blow with an iron object, that person is a murderer; the murderer is to be put to death.(Q) 17 Or if anyone is holding a stone and strikes someone a fatal blow with it, that person is a murderer; the murderer is to be put to death. 18 Or if anyone is holding a wooden object and strikes someone a fatal blow with it, that person is a murderer; the murderer is to be put to death. 19 The avenger of blood(R) shall put the murderer to death; when the avenger comes upon the murderer, the avenger shall put the murderer to death.(S) 20 If anyone with malice aforethought shoves another or throws something at them intentionally(T) so that they die 21 or if out of enmity one person hits another with their fist so that the other dies, that person is to be put to death;(U) that person is a murderer. The avenger of blood(V) shall put the murderer to death when they meet.
22 “‘But if without enmity someone suddenly pushes another or throws something at them unintentionally(W) 23 or, without seeing them, drops on them a stone heavy enough to kill them, and they die, then since that other person was not an enemy and no harm was intended, 24 the assembly(X) must judge between the accused and the avenger of blood according to these regulations. 25 The assembly must protect the one accused of murder from the avenger of blood and send the accused back to the city of refuge to which they fled. The accused must stay there until the death of the high priest,(Y) who was anointed(Z) with the holy oil.(AA)
26 “‘But if the accused ever goes outside the limits of the city of refuge to which they fled 27 and the avenger of blood finds them outside the city, the avenger of blood may kill the accused without being guilty of murder. 28 The accused must stay in the city of refuge until the death of the high priest; only after the death of the high priest may they return to their own property.
29 “‘This is to have the force of law(AB) for you throughout the generations to come,(AC) wherever you live.(AD)
30 “‘Anyone who kills a person is to be put to death as a murderer only on the testimony of witnesses. But no one is to be put to death on the testimony of only one witness.(AE)
31 “‘Do not accept a ransom(AF) for the life of a murderer, who deserves to die. They are to be put to death.
32 “‘Do not accept a ransom for anyone who has fled to a city of refuge and so allow them to go back and live on their own land before the death of the high priest.
33 “‘Do not pollute the land where you are. Bloodshed pollutes the land,(AG) and atonement cannot be made for the land on which blood has been shed, except by the blood of the one who shed it. 34 Do not defile the land(AH) where you live and where I dwell,(AI) for I, the Lord, dwell among the Israelites.’”
