The Journey from Egypt to Moab
33 The following account gives the names of the places where the Israelites set up camp after they left Egypt in their tribes under the leadership of Moses and Aaron. 2 At the command of the Lord, Moses wrote down the name of the place each time they set up camp.
3 The people of Israel left Egypt on the fifteenth day of the first month of the year, the day after the first Passover. Under the Lord's protection they left the city of Rameses in full view of the Egyptians, 4 who were burying the first-born sons that the Lord had killed. By doing this, the Lord showed that he was more powerful than the gods of Egypt.
5 The people of Israel left Rameses and set up camp at Sukkoth. 6 Their next camp was at Etham on the edge of the desert. 7 From there they turned back to Pi Hahiroth, east of Baal Zephon, and camped near Migdol. 8 They left Pi Hahiroth and passed through the Red Sea[a] into the desert of Shur; after a three days' march they camped at Marah. 9 From there they went to Elim, where they camped, because there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees there.
10 They left Elim and camped near the Gulf of Suez. 11 Their next camp was in the desert of Sin. 12 Then they camped at Dophkah, 13 and after that at Alush. 14 Next was Rephidim, where there was no water for them to drink.
15-37 From Rephidim to Mount Hor they set up camp at the following places: the Sinai Desert, Kibroth Hattaavah (or “Graves of Craving”), Hazeroth, Rithmah, Rimmon Perez, Libnah, Rissah, Kehelathah, Mount Shepher, Haradah, Makheloth, Tahath, Terah, Mithkah, Hashmonah, Moseroth, Bene Jaakan, Hor Haggidgad, Jotbathah, Abronah, Eziongeber, the wilderness of Zin (that is, Kadesh), and Mount Hor, at the edge of the land of Edom.
38-39 (A)At the command of the Lord, Aaron the priest climbed Mount Hor. At the age of 123 he died there on the first day of the fifth month of the fortieth year after the Israelites had left Egypt.
40 (B)The king of Arad in southern Canaan heard that the Israelites were coming.
41-49 From Mount Hor to the plains of Moab the Israelites set up camp at the following places: Zalmonah, Punon, Oboth, the ruins of Abarim in the territory of Moab, Dibon Gad, Almon Diblathaim, the Abarim Mountains near Mount Nebo, and in the plains of Moab across the Jordan River from Jericho, between Beth Jeshimoth and Acacia Valley.
Instructions before Crossing the Jordan
50 There in the plains of Moab across the Jordan from Jericho the Lord gave Moses 51 the following instructions for Israel: “When you cross the Jordan into the land of Canaan, 52 you must drive out all the inhabitants of the land. Destroy all their stone and metal idols and all their places of worship. 53 Occupy the land and settle in it, because I am giving it to you. 54 (C)Divide the land among the various tribes and clans by drawing lots, giving a large piece of property to a large clan and a small one to a small clan. 55 But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land, those that are left will be as troublesome as splinters in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they will fight against you. 56 If you do not drive them out, I will destroy you, as I planned to destroy them.”

Campsites from Rameses to Jordan-Jericho
33 1-2 These are the camping sites in the journey of the People of Israel after they left Egypt, deployed militarily under the command of Moses and Aaron. Under God’s instruction Moses kept a log of every time they moved, camp by camp:
3-4 They marched out of Rameses the day after the Passover. It was the fifteenth day of the first month. They marched out heads high and confident. The Egyptians, busy burying their firstborn whom God had killed, watched them go. God had exposed the nonsense of their gods.
5-36 The People of Israel:
left Rameses and camped at Succoth;
left Succoth and camped at Etham at the edge of the wilderness;
left Etham, circled back to Pi Hahiroth east of Baal Zephon, and camped near Migdol;
left Pi Hahiroth and crossed through the Sea into the wilderness; three days into the Wilderness of Etham they camped at Marah;
left Marah and came to Elim where there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees; they camped there;
left Elim and camped by the Red Sea;
left the Red Sea and camped in the Wilderness of Sin;
left the Wilderness of Sin and camped at Dophkah;
left Dophkah and camped at Alush;
left Alush and camped at Rephidim where there was no water for the people to drink;
left Rephidim and camped in the Wilderness of Sinai;
left the Wilderness of Sinai and camped at Kibroth Hattaavah;
left Kibroth Hattaavah and camped at Hazeroth;
left Hazeroth and camped at Rithmah;
left Rithmah and camped at Rimmon Perez;
left Rimmon Perez and camped at Libnah;
left Libnah and camped at Rissah;
left Rissah and camped at Kehelathah;
left Kehelathah and camped at Mount Shepher;
left Mount Shepher and camped at Haradah;
left Haradah and camped at Makheloth;
left Makheloth and camped at Tahath;
left Tahath and camped at Terah;
left Terah and camped at Mithcah;
left Mithcah and camped at Hashmonah;
left Hashmonah and camped at Moseroth;
left Moseroth and camped at Bene Jaakan;
left Bene Jaakan and camped at Hor Haggidgad;
left Hor Haggidgad and camped at Jotbathah;
left Jotbathah and camped at Abronah;
left Abronah and camped at Ezion Geber;
left Ezion Geber and camped at Kadesh in the Wilderness of Zin.
37-39 After they left Kadesh and camped at Mount Hor at the border of Edom, Aaron the priest climbed Mount Hor at God’s command and died there. It was the first day of the fifth month in the fortieth year after the People of Israel had left Egypt. Aaron was 123 years old when he died on Mount Hor.

40 The Canaanite king of Arad—he ruled in the Negev of Canaan—heard that the People of Israel had arrived.
41-47 They left Mount Hor and camped at Zalmonah;
left Zalmonah and camped at Punon;
left Punon and camped at Oboth;
left Oboth and camped at Iye Abarim on the border of Moab;
left Iyim and camped at Dibon Gad;
left Dibon Gad and camped at Almon Diblathaim;
left Almon Diblathaim and camped in the mountains of Abarim (Across-the-River), within sight of Nebo.
48-49 After they left the mountains of Abarim they camped on the Plains of Moab at Jordan-Jericho. On the Plains of Moab their camp stretched along the banks of the Jordan from Beth Jeshimoth to Abel Shittim (Acacia Meadow).
50-53 God spoke to Moses on the Plains of Moab at Jordan-Jericho: “Tell the People of Israel, When you cross the Jordan into the country of Canaan, drive out the native population before you, destroy their carved idols, destroy their cast images, level their worship-mounds so that you take over the land and make yourself at home in it; I’ve given it to you. It’s yours.
54 “Divide up the land by lot according to the size of your clans: Large clans will get large tracts of land, small clans will get smaller tracts of land. However the lot falls, that’s it. Divide it up according to your ancestral tribes.
55-56 “But if you don’t drive out the native population, everyone you let stay there will become a cinder in your eye and a splinter in your foot. They’ll give you endless trouble right in your own backyards. And I’ll start treating you the way I planned to treat them.”

I Elim fanns tolv vattenkällor och sjuttio palmträd, och de slog läger där. 10 De bröt upp från Elim och slog läger vid Röda havet. 11 De bröt upp från Röda havet och slog läger i öknen Sin. 12 De bröt upp från öknen Sin och slog läger i Dofka. 13 De bröt upp från Dofka och slog läger i Alus. 14 De bröt upp från Alus och slog läger i Refidim, där det inte fanns vatten för folket att dricka. 15 De bröt upp från Refidim och slog läger i Sinai öken.
16 De bröt upp från Sinai öken och slog läger i Kibrot-Hattaava. 17 De bröt upp från Kibrot-Hattaava och slog läger i Haserot. 18 De bröt upp från Haserot och slog läger i Ritma. 19 De bröt upp från Ritma och slog läger i Rimmon-Peres. 20 De bröt upp från Rimmon-Peres och slog läger i Libna. 21 De bröt upp från Libna och slog läger i Rissa. 22 De bröt upp från Rissa och slog läger i Kehelata. 23 De bröt upp från Kehelata och slog läger vid berget Sefer. 24 De bröt upp från berget Sefer och slog läger i Harada. 25 De bröt upp från Harada och slog läger i Makhelot. 26 De bröt upp från Makhelot och slog läger i Tahat. 27 De bröt upp från Tahat och slog läger i Tera. 28 De bröt upp från Tera och slog läger i Mitka. 29 De bröt upp från Mitka och slog läger i Hasmona. 30 De bröt upp från Hasmona och slog läger i Moserot. 31 De bröt upp från Moserot och slog läger i Bene-Jaakan. 32 De bröt upp från Bene-Jaakan och slog läger i Hor-Haggidgad. 33 De bröt upp från Hor-Haggidgad och slog läger i Jotbata. 34 De bröt upp från Jotbata och slog läger i Abrona. 35 De bröt upp från Abrona och slog läger i Esjon-Geber. 36 De bröt upp från Esjon-Geber och slog läger i öknen Sin, det vill säga Kadesh. 37 De bröt upp från Kadesh och slog läger vid berget Hor på gränsen till Edoms land.
38 På Herrens befallning steg prästen Aron upp på berget Hor och dog där i det fyrtionde året efter Israels barns uttåg ur Egyptens land, i femte månaden, på första dagen i månaden. 39 Aron var etthundra- tjugotre år gammal när han dog på berget Hor.
40 Kungen i Arad, kananeen, som bodde i Negev i Kanaans land, fick nu höra att Israels barn var på väg.
41 De bröt upp från berget Hor och slog läger i Salmona. 42 De bröt upp från Salmona och slog läger i Punon. 43 De bröt upp från Punon och slog läger i Obot. 44 De bröt upp från Obot och slog läger i Ije-Haabarim vid Moabs gräns. 45 De bröt upp från Ijim och slog läger i Dibon-Gad. 46 De bröt upp från Dibon-Gad och slog läger i Almon-Diblatajma. 47 De bröt upp från Almon-Diblatajma och slog läger vid Abarimbergen framför Nebo. 48 De bröt upp från Abarimbergen och slog läger på Moabs hedar vid Jordan mitt emot Jeriko. 49 Deras läger vid Jordan sträckte sig från Bet-Hajesimot ända till Abel-Hassitim på Moabs hedar.
Anvisningar inför Kanaans erövring
50 Herren talade till Mose på Moabs hedar vid Jordan mitt emot Jeriko och sade: 51 "Säg till Israels barn: När ni har gått över Jordan in i Kanaans land, 52 skall ni driva bort landets alla inbyggare för er och förstöra alla deras bildstoder. Alla deras gjutna avgudabilder skall ni förstöra och alla deras offerhöjder skall ni ödelägga. 53 Ni skall erövra landet och bosätta er där, ty jag har givit landet åt er till besittning. 54 Ni skall utskifta landet åt er som arvedel genom lottkastning efter era släkter. Åt en större stam skall ni ge en större arvedel och åt en mindre stam en mindre arvedel. Var och en skall få sin del efter vad lotten bestämmer. Efter era fädernestammar skall ni utskifta landet mellan er. 55 Men om ni inte driver bort landets inbyggare för er, då skall de som ni låter vara kvar bli törnen i era ögon och taggar i era sidor, och de skall tränga er i landet där ni bor. 56 Och då skall jag göra med er så som jag hade tänkt göra med dem."
