32 Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle: and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle;
2 The children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spake unto Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of the congregation, saying,
3 Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon,
4 Even the country which the Lord smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle:
5 Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan.
6 And Moses said unto the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here?
7 And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the Lord hath given them?
8 Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadeshbarnea to see the land.
9 For when they went up unto the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the Lord had given them.
10 And the Lord'S anger was kindled the same time, and he sware, saying,
11 Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me:
12 Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the Lord.
13 And the Lord'S anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the Lord, was consumed.
14 And, behold, ye are risen up in your fathers' stead, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the Lord toward Israel.
15 For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people.
16 And they came near unto him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones:
17 But we ourselves will go ready armed before the children of Israel, until we have brought them unto their place: and our little ones shall dwell in the fenced cities because of the inhabitants of the land.
18 We will not return unto our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited every man his inheritance.
19 For we will not inherit with them on yonder side Jordan, or forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side Jordan eastward.
20 And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the Lord to war,
21 And will go all of you armed over Jordan before the Lord, until he hath driven out his enemies from before him,
22 And the land be subdued before the Lord: then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless before the Lord, and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the Lord.
23 But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the Lord: and be sure your sin will find you out.
24 Build you cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which hath proceeded out of your mouth.
25 And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben spake unto Moses, saying, Thy servants will do as my lord commandeth.
26 Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall be there in the cities of Gilead:
27 But thy servants will pass over, every man armed for war, before the Lord to battle, as my lord saith.
28 So concerning them Moses commanded Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel:
29 And Moses said unto them, If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will pass with you over Jordan, every man armed to battle, before the Lord, and the land shall be subdued before you; then ye shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession:
30 But if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.
31 And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying, As the Lord hath said unto thy servants, so will we do.
32 We will pass over armed before the Lord into the land of Canaan, that the possession of our inheritance on this side Jordan may be our's.
33 And Moses gave unto them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and unto half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with the cities thereof in the coasts, even the cities of the country round about.
34 And the children of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,
35 And Atroth, Shophan, and Jaazer, and Jogbehah,
36 And Bethnimrah, and Bethharan, fenced cities: and folds for sheep.
37 And the children of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kirjathaim,
38 And Nebo, and Baalmeon, (their names being changed,) and Shibmah: and gave other names unto the cities which they builded.
39 And the children of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead, and took it, and dispossessed the Amorite which was in it.
40 And Moses gave Gilead unto Machir the son of Manasseh; and he dwelt therein.
41 And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took the small towns thereof, and called them Havothjair.
42 And Nobah went and took Kenath, and the villages thereof, and called it Nobah, after his own name.

32 Y LOS hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad tenían una muy grande muchedumbre de ganado; los cuales viendo la tierra de Jazer y de Galaad, parecióles el país lugar de ganado.
2 Y vinieron los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén, y hablaron á Moisés, y á Eleazar el sacerdote, y á los príncipes de la congregación, diciendo:
3 Ataroth, y Dibón, y Jazer, y Nimra, y Hesbón, y Eleale, y Sabán, y Nebo, y Beón,
4 La tierra que Jehová hirió delante de la congregación de Israel, es tierra de ganado, y tus siervos tienen ganado.
5 Por tanto, dijeron, si hallamos gracia en tus ojos, dése esta tierra á tus siervos en heredad, y no nos hagas pasar el Jordán.
6 Y respondió Moisés á los hijos de Gad y á los hijos de Rubén: ¿Vendrán vuestros hermanos á la guerra, y vosotros os quedaréis aquí?
7 ¿Y por qué prevenís el ánimo de los hijos de Israel, para que no pasen á la tierra que les ha dado Jehová?
8 Así hicieron vuestros padres, cuando los envié desde Cades-barnea para que viesen la tierra.
9 Que subieron hasta la arroyada de Escol, y después que vieron la tierra, preocuparon el ánimo de los hijos de Israel, para que no viniesen á la tierra que Jehová les había dado.
10 Y el furor de Jehová se encendió entonces, y juró diciendo:
11 Que no verán los varones que subieron de Egipto de veinte años arriba, la tierra por la cual juré á Abraham, Isaac, y Jacob, por cuanto no fueron perfectos en pos de mí;
12 Excepto Caleb, hijo de Jephone Cenezeo, y Josué hijo de Nun, que fueron perfectos en pos de Jehová.
13 Y el furor de Jehová se encendió en Israel, é hízolos andar errantes cuarenta años por el desierto, hasta que fué acabada toda aquella generación, que había hecho mal delante de Jehová.
14 Y he aquí vosotros habéis sucedido en lugar de vuestros padres, prole de hombres pecadores, para añadir aún á la ira de Jehová contra Israel.
15 Si os volviereis de en pos de él, él volverá otra vez á dejaros en el desierto, y destruiréis á todo este pueblo.
16 Entonces ellos se allegaron á él y dijeron: Edificaremos aquí majadas para nuestro ganado, y ciudades para nuestros niños;
17 Y nosotros nos armaremos, é iremos con diligencia delante de los hijos de Israel, hasta que los metamos en su lugar: y nuestros niños quedarán en ciudades fuertes á causa de los moradores del país.
18 No volveremos á nuestras casas hasta que los hijos de Israel posean cada uno su heredad.
19 Porque no tomaremos heredad con ellos al otro lado del Jordán ni adelante, por cuanto tendremos ya nuestra heredad de estotra parte del Jordán al oriente.
20 Entonces les respondió Moisés: Si lo hiciereis así, si os apercibiereis para ir delante de Jehová á la guerra,
21 Y pasareis todos vosotros armados el Jordán delante de Jehová, hasta que haya echado á sus enemigos de delante de sí,
22 Y sea el país sojuzgado delante de Jehová; luego volveréis, y seréis libres de culpa para con Jehová, y para con Israel; y esta tierra será vuestra en heredad delante de Jehová.
23 Mas si así no lo hiciereis, he aquí habréis pecado á Jehová; y sabed que os alcanzará vuestro pecado.
24 Edificaos ciudades para vuestros niños, y majadas para vuestras ovejas, y haced lo que ha salido de vuestra boca.
25 Y hablaron los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén á Moisés, diciendo: Tus siervos harán como mi señor ha mandado.
26 Nuestros niños, nuestras mujeres, nuestros ganados, y todas nuestras bestias, estarán ahí en las ciudades de Galaad;
27 Y tus siervos, armados todos de guerra, pasarán delante de Jehová á la guerra, de la manera que mi señor dice.
28 Entonces los encomendó Moisés á Eleazar el sacerdote, y á Josué hijo de Nun, y á los príncipes de los padres de las tribus de los hijos de Israel.
29 Y díjoles Moisés: Si los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén, pasaren con vosotros el Jordán, armados todos de guerra delante de Jehová, luego que el país fuere sojuzgado delante de vosotros, les daréis la tierra de Galaad en posesión:
30 Mas si no pasaren armados con vosotros, entonces tendrán posesión entre vosotros en la tierra de Canaán.
31 Y los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén respondieron, diciendo: Haremos lo que Jehová ha dicho á tus siervos.
32 Nosotros pasaremos armados delante de Jehová á la tierra de Canaán, y la posesión de nuestra heredad será de esta parte del Jordán.
33 Así les dió Moisés á los hijos de Gad y á los hijos de Rubén, y á la media tribu de Manasés hijo de José, el reino de Sehón rey Amorrheo, y el reino de Og rey de Basán, la tierra con sus ciudades y términos, las ciudades del país alrededor.
34 Y los hijos de Gad edificaron á Dibón, y á Ataroth, y á Aroer,
35 Y á Atroth-sophan, y á Jazer, y á Jogbaa,
36 Y á Beth-nimra, y á Betharán: ciudades fuertes, y también majadas para ovejas.
37 Y los hijos de Rubén edificaron á Hesbón, y á Eleale, y á Kiriathaim,
38 Y á Nebo, y á Baal-meón, (mudados los nombres), y á Sibma: y pusieron nombres á las ciudades que edificaron.
39 Y los hijos de Machîr hijo de Manasés fueron á Galaad, y tomáronla, y echaron al Amorrheo que estaba en ella.

The Tribes Settling East of the Jordan(A)
32 Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of livestock; and when they saw the land of (B)Jazer and the land of (C)Gilead, that indeed the region was a place for livestock, 2 the children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spoke to Moses, to Eleazar the priest, and to the leaders of the congregation, saying, 3 “Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, (D)Nimrah, (E)Heshbon, Elealeh, (F)Shebam, Nebo, and (G)Beon, 4 the country (H)which the Lord defeated before the congregation of Israel, is a land for livestock, and your servants have livestock.” 5 Therefore they said, “If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants as a possession. Do not take us over the Jordan.”
6 And Moses said to the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben: “Shall your brethren go to war while you sit here? 7 Now why will you (I)discourage the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the Lord has given them? 8 Thus your fathers did (J)when I sent them away from Kadesh Barnea (K)to see the land. 9 For (L)when they went up to the Valley of Eshcol and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, so that they did not go into the land which the Lord had given them. 10 (M)So the Lord’s anger was aroused on that day, and He swore an oath, saying, 11 ‘Surely none of the men who came up from Egypt, (N)from twenty years old and above, shall see the land of which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, because (O)they have not wholly followed Me, 12 except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, the Kenizzite, and Joshua the son of Nun, (P)for they have wholly followed the Lord.’ 13 So the Lord’s anger was aroused against Israel, and He made them (Q)wander in the wilderness forty years, until (R)all the generation that had done evil in the sight of the Lord was gone. 14 And look! 16 Then they came near to him and said: “We will build sheepfolds here for our livestock, and cities for our little ones, 17 but (U)we ourselves will be armed, ready to go before the children of Israel until we have brought them to their place; and our little ones will dwell in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land. 18 (V)We will not return to our homes until every one of the children of Israel has [a]received his inheritance. 19 For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan and beyond, (W)because our inheritance has fallen to us on this eastern side of the Jordan.”
20 Then (X)Moses said to them: “If you do this thing, if you arm yourselves before the Lord for the war, 21 and all your armed men cross over the Jordan before the Lord until He has driven out His enemies from before Him, 22 and (Y)the land is subdued before the Lord, then afterward (Z)you may return and be blameless before the Lord and before Israel; and (AA)this land shall be your possession before the Lord. 23 But if you do not do so, then take note, you have sinned against the Lord; and be sure (AB)your sin will find you out. 24 (AC)Build cities for your little ones and folds for your sheep, and do [b]what has proceeded out of your mouth.”
25 And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben spoke to Moses, saying: “Your servants will do as my lord commands. 26 (AD)Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our livestock will be there in the cities of Gilead; 27 (AE)but your servants will cross over, every man armed for war, before the Lord to battle, just as my lord says.”
28 So Moses gave command (AF)concerning them to Eleazar the priest, to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel. 29 And Moses said to them: “If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben cross over the Jordan with you, every man armed for battle before the Lord, and the land is subdued before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead as a possession. 30 But if they do not cross over armed with you, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.”
31 Then the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying: “As the Lord has said to your servants, so we will do. 32 We will cross over armed before the Lord into the land of Canaan, but the possession of our inheritance shall remain with us on this side of the Jordan.”
33 So (AG)Moses gave to the children of Gad, to the children of Reuben, and to half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, (AH)the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land with its cities within the borders, the cities of the surrounding country. 34 And the children of Gad built (AI)Dibon and Ataroth and (AJ)Aroer, 35 Atroth and Shophan and (AK)Jazer and Jogbehah, 36 (AL)Beth Nimrah and Beth Haran, (AM)fortified cities, and folds for sheep. 37 And the children of Reuben built (AN)Heshbon and Elealeh and Kirjathaim, 38 (AO)Nebo and (AP)Baal Meon (AQ)(their names being changed) and Shibmah; and they gave other names to the cities which they built.

And they saw the land of (A)Jazer and the land of Gilead, and behold, the place was a place for livestock. 2 So the people of Gad and the people of Reuben came and said to Moses and to Eleazar the priest and to the chiefs of the congregation, 3 (B)“Ataroth, (C)Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, (D)Nebo, and Beon, 4 the land (E)that the Lord struck down before the congregation of Israel, is a land for livestock, and your servants have livestock.” 5 And they said, “If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession. And our little ones shall live in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land. 18 (Q)We will not return to our homes until each of the people of Israel has gained his inheritance. 19 For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan and beyond, (R)because our inheritance has come to us on this side of the Jordan to the east.” 20 So (S)Moses said to them, “If you will do this, if you will take up arms to go before the Lord for the war, 21 and every armed man of you will pass over the Jordan before the Lord, until he has (T)driven out his enemies from before him 22 and the land is subdued before the Lord; then after that you shall return and be free of obligation to the Lord and to Israel, and (U)this land shall be your possession before the Lord. 23 But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the Lord, and (V)be sure your sin will find you out. 24 (W)Build cities for your little ones and folds for your sheep, and do what you have promised.” 25 And the people of Gad and the people of Reuben said to Moses, “Your servants will do as my lord commands. 26 (X)Our little ones, our wives, our livestock, and all our cattle shall remain there in the cities of Gilead, 27 (Y)but your servants will pass over, every man who is (Z)armed for war, before the Lord to battle, as my lord orders.”
28 So (AA)Moses gave command concerning them to Eleazar the priest and to (AB)Joshua the son of Nun and to the heads of the fathers' houses of the tribes of the people of Israel. 29 And Moses said to them, “If the people of Gad and the people of Reuben, every man who is armed to battle before the Lord, will pass with you over the Jordan and the land shall be subdued before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession. 30 However, if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.” 31 And the people of Gad and the people of Reuben answered, “What the Lord has said to your servants, we will do. 32 We will pass over armed before the Lord into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance shall remain with us beyond the Jordan.”
33 And (AC)Moses gave to them, to the people of Gad and to the people of Reuben and to the half-tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land and its cities with their territories, the cities of the land throughout the country. 34 And the people of Gad built (AD)Dibon, (AE)Ataroth, (AF)Aroer, 35 Atroth-shophan, (AG)Jazer, Jogbehah, 36 (AH)Beth-nimrah and Beth-haran, (AI)fortified cities, and folds for sheep. 37 And the people of Reuben built (AJ)Heshbon, (AK)Elealeh, Kiriathaim, 38 (AL)Nebo, and (AM)Baal-meon ((AN)their names were changed), and (AO)Sibmah. And they gave other names to the cities that they built. 39 And the sons of (AP)Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead and captured it, and dispossessed the Amorites who were in it. 40 And Moses (AQ)gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh, and he settled in it. 41 And (AR)Jair the son of Manasseh went and captured their villages, and called them Havvoth-jair.[a] 42 And Nobah went and captured Kenath and its villages, and called it Nobah, after his own name.
