Moses said to the men of Reuben and Gad, ‘The other Israelite tribes will go across the river to fight against the people who live there. It is not fair that you should stay here! If you stay here, the rest of the Israelites may not want to cross the river. Do not stop them going into the land that the Lord has given to them! Your fathers did the same thing when I sent them from Kadesh-Barnea to look at the land of Canaan.

And Moses said unto the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here?

And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the Lord hath given them?

Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadeshbarnea to see the land.
