Zelophehad’s Daughters(A)
27 The daughters of Zelophehad(B) son of Hepher,(C) the son of Gilead,(D) the son of Makir,(E) the son of Manasseh, belonged to the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph. The names of the daughters were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milkah and Tirzah. They came forward 2 and stood before Moses,(F) Eleazar the priest, the leaders(G) and the whole assembly at the entrance to the tent of meeting(H) and said, 3 “Our father died in the wilderness.(I) He was not among Korah’s followers, who banded together against the Lord,(J) but he died for his own sin and left no sons.(K) 4 Why should our father’s name disappear from his clan because he had no son? Give us property among our father’s relatives.”
5 So Moses brought their case(L) before the Lord,(M) 6 and the Lord said to him, 7 “What Zelophehad’s daughters are saying is right. You must certainly give them property as an inheritance(N) among their father’s relatives and give their father’s inheritance to them.(O)
8 “Say to the Israelites, ‘If a man dies and leaves no son, give his inheritance to his daughter. 9 If he has no daughter, give his inheritance to his brothers. 10 If he has no brothers, give his inheritance to his father’s brothers. 11 If his father had no brothers, give his inheritance to the nearest relative in his clan, that he may possess it. This is to have the force of law(P) for the Israelites, as the Lord commanded Moses.’”
Joshua to Succeed Moses
12 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go up this mountain(Q) in the Abarim Range(R) and see the land(S) I have given the Israelites.(T) 13 After you have seen it, you too will be gathered to your people,(U) as your brother Aaron(V) was, 14 for when the community rebelled at the waters in the Desert of Zin,(W) both of you disobeyed my command to honor me as holy(X) before their eyes.” (These were the waters of Meribah(Y) Kadesh, in the Desert of Zin.)
15 Moses said to the Lord, 16 “May the Lord, the God who gives breath to all living things,(Z) appoint someone over this community 17 to go out and come in before them, one who will lead them out and bring them in, so the Lord’s people will not be like sheep without a shepherd.”(AA)
18 So the Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit of leadership,[a](AB) and lay your hand on him.(AC) 19 Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and the entire assembly and commission him(AD) in their presence.(AE) 20 Give him some of your authority so the whole Israelite community will obey him.(AF) 21 He is to stand before Eleazar the priest, who will obtain decisions for him by inquiring(AG) of the Urim(AH) before the Lord. At his command he and the entire community of the Israelites will go out, and at his command they will come in.”
22 Moses did as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua and had him stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole assembly. 23 Then he laid his hands on him and commissioned him,(AI) as the Lord instructed through Moses.

Inheritance Laws
27 Then came the daughters of (A)Zelophehad the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, from the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph; and these were the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. 2 And they stood before Moses, before Eleazar the priest, and before the leaders and all the congregation, by the doorway of the tabernacle of meeting, saying: 3 “Our father (B)died in the wilderness; but he was not in the company of those who gathered together against the Lord, (C)in company with Korah, but he died in his own sin; and he had no sons. 4 Why should the name of our father be (D)removed[a] from among his family because he had no son? (E)Give us a [b]possession among our father’s brothers.”
5 So Moses (F)brought their case before the Lord.
6 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 7 “The daughters of Zelophehad speak what is right; (G)you shall surely give them a possession of inheritance among their father’s brothers, and cause the inheritance of their father to pass to them. 8 And you shall speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘If a man dies and has no son, then you shall cause his inheritance to pass to his daughter. 9 If he has no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers. 10 If he has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his father’s brothers. 11 And if his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to the relative closest to him in his family, and he shall possess it.’ ” And it shall be to the children of Israel (H)a statute of judgment, just as the Lord commanded Moses.
Joshua the Next Leader of Israel(I)
12 Now the Lord said to Moses: (J)“Go up into this Mount Abarim, and see the land which I have given to the children of Israel. 13 And when you have seen it, you also (K)shall [c]be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother was gathered. 14 For in the Wilderness of Zin, during the strife of the congregation, you (L)rebelled against My command to hallow Me at the waters before their eyes.” (These are the (M)waters of Meribah, at Kadesh in the Wilderness of Zin.)
15 Then Moses spoke to the Lord, saying: 16 “Let the Lord, (N)the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation, 17 (O)who may go out before them and go in before them, who may lead them out and bring them in, that the congregation of the Lord may not be (P)like sheep which have no shepherd.”
18 And the Lord said to Moses: “Take Joshua the son of Nun with you, a man (Q)in whom is the Spirit, and (R)lay your hand on him; 19 set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation, and (S)inaugurate[d] him in their sight. 20 And (T)you shall give some of your authority to him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel (U)may be obedient. 21 (V)He shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire before the Lord for him (W)by the judgment of the Urim. (X)At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, he and all the children of Israel with him—all the congregation.”
22 So Moses did as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua and set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation. 23 And he laid his hands on him (Y)and [e]inaugurated him, just as the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses.

8 Iar israeliţilor să le spui: «Dacă un om moare şi nu lasă moştenitori, moştenirea lui să treacă în proprietatea fiicelor lui. 9 Dacă nu are fete, moştenirea lui să fie dată fraţilor lui. 10 Dacă nu are nici fraţi, moştenirea să fie dată fraţilor tatălui lui. 11 Dacă nici tatăl său nu are fraţi, moştenirea lui să fie dată în proprietatea rudeniei celei mai apropiate din clanul lui.» Aceasta să fie o prevedere legală pentru israeliţi, după porunca Domnului dată lui Moise.“
Iosua drept succesor al lui Moise
12 După aceea, Domnul i-a zis lui Moise:
– Urcă-te pe muntele acesta, Abarim, ca să vezi ţara pe care am dat-o israeliţilor. 13 După ce o vei privi, vei fi adăugat la poporul tău tot aşa cum a fost adăugat şi fratele tău, Aaron. 14 Căci atunci când adunarea a început să se certe, voi v-aţi răzvrătit împotriva poruncii Mele la apele din pustia Ţin şi nu M-aţi sfinţit înaintea ochilor lor. (Acestea au fost apele de la Meriba Kadeş, în pustia Ţin.)
15 Moise I-a răspuns Domnului:
16 – Fie ca Domnul, Dumnezeul duhurilor oricărui trup, să numească un om peste această adunare, 17 care să iasă şi să intre înaintea lor, care să-i scoată afară şi să-i conducă înăuntru, pentru ca adunarea Domnului să nu fie ca o turmă fără păstor.
18 Domnul i-a zis lui Moise:
– Ia-l pe Iosua, fiul lui Nun, bărbat în care este Duhul Meu, şi pune-ţi mâna peste el. 19 Să-l aşezi înaintea preotului Elazar şi a întregii adunări şi să-l împuterniceşti în prezenţa lor. 20 Dă-i din autoritatea ta pentru ca toată adunarea israeliţilor să-l asculte. 21 Să stea înaintea preotului Elazar, iar acesta să întrebe pentru el decizia lui Urim[a] înaintea Domnului. La porunca lui Elazar, Iosua şi toţi israeliţii împreună cu el, toată adunarea, vor trebui să iasă şi la porunca lui vor trebui să intre.
22 Moise a făcut după porunca Domnului. L-a luat pe Iosua şi l-a pus înaintea preotului Elazar şi a întregii adunări. 23 Apoi şi-a pus mâinile peste el şi l-a împuternicit, după cuvântul încredinţat lui de Domnul.

27 En dag kom Selofchads döttrar fram. Selofchad var son till Hefer, son till Gilead, son till Makir, son till Manasse, som tillhörde Manasses, Josefs sons släkter. Döttrarna hette Machla, Noa, Hogla, Milka och Tirsa. 2 De ställde sig inför Mose, prästen Elasar, ledarna och hela menigheten vid ingången till uppenbarelsetältet och sa: 3 ”Vår far dog i öknen. Han var inte med bland dem som gaddade sig samman i Korachs uppror mot Herren utan dog för sin egen synd. Men han hade inga söner. 4 Varför ska hans namn behöva dö ut bara för att han inte har en son? Vi skulle vilja ha landområden som de andra i hans släkt.”
5 Mose lade fram deras sak inför Herren. 6 Och Herren svarade Mose:
7 ”Selofchads döttrar har rätt. Ge dem land tillsammans med deras farbröder. Detta ska vara en lagstadgad rätt för israeliterna, som Herren har befallt Mose.’ ”
Mose utser Josua till efterträdare
12 En dag sa Herren till Mose: ”Gå upp på berget Avarim och se ut över det land, som jag har gett Israels folk. 13 När du har sett det, kommer du att dö[a] alldeles som din bror Aron, 14 för ni följde inte det jag befallde er i öknen Sin. När menigheten gjorde uppror, höll ni mig inte helig inför israeliterna när det gällde vattnet i Meriva vid Kadesh, i öknen Sin.”
15 Då sa Mose till Herren: 16 ”Må Herren som är Gud över allt levandes ande utse en ny ledare åt folket, 17 en man som kan leda dem när de går ut och när de vänder åter, vara deras ledare och anförare, så att Herrens folk inte blir som får utan herde!”
18 Herren svarade: ”Gå och hämta Josua, Nuns son, som är fylld av ande. Lägg din hand på honom 19 och för honom till prästen Elasar och hela menigheten. Insätt honom i denna uppgift inför dem. 20 Ge honom av din auktoritet, så att hela Israels menighet kommer att lyda honom. 21 Han ska ställa sig inför prästen Elasar för att få direktiv från Herren genom urim. Efter hans ord ska de dra ut och vända tillbaka, Josua och de övriga israeliterna, hela menigheten.”
22 Mose gjorde som Herren sagt och tog med sig Josua och ställde honom inför prästen Elasar och hela menigheten. 23 Mose lade sina händer på Josua och avskilde honom för hans uppgift, så som Herren hade sagt.
