Balaam’s Third Prophecy
24 When Balaam noticed that the Lord was pleased that Balaam was blessing Israel, he didn’t behave as he had time after time before, that is, to practice divination. Instead, he turned with his face to the wilderness, 2 looked up, and saw Israel encamped in their respective tribal order. Just then, the spirit of God came upon him. 3 Balaam uttered this prophetic statement:
“A declaration by Beor’s son Balaam,
a declaration by the strong, blind man.[a]
4 A declaration from one who hears what God has to say,
who saw the vision that the Almighty revealed,
who keeps stumbling
with open eyes.
5 Jacob, your tents are so fine,
as well as your dwelling places,[b] O Israel!
6 They’re spread out like valleys,
like gardens along river banks,
like aloe planted by the Lord,
or like cedars beside water.
7 He will pour water from his buckets,
and his descendants will stream forth like abundant water.
His king will be more exalted than Agag
when he exalts his own kingdom.
8 God is bringing them[c] out of Egypt
with the strength of an ox.
He’ll devour enemy nations,
break their bones,
and impale them with arrows.
9 He crouches, laying low like a lion.
Who would awaken him?
Those who bless you are blessed,
and those who curse you are cursed.”
10 Balak flew into a rage and he started hitting his fists together. “I called you to curse my enemies,” he yelled at Balaam. “But look here! You’ve blessed them three times! 11 Now get out of here! I had promised you that I would definitely honor you, but now the Lord has kept me from doing that!”
12 But Balaam replied to Balak, “I told your messengers, 13 ‘Even if Balak gives me his palace[d] full of silver and gold, I won’t double-cross the command of the Lord and do anything—whether good or evil—on my own initiative, because I’m going to say whatever the Lord says.’ 14 Meanwhile, since I have to return to my people, come and listen while I tell you what this people will be doing to your people in the last days.”
Balaam’s Final Prophecies
15 Then Balaam[e] uttered this prophetic statement:
“The declaration by Beor’s son Balaam,
a declaration by the strong, blind man.
16 A declaration from one who hears what God has to say,
who knows what the Most High knows,
who saw the vision that the Almighty revealed,
who keeps stumbling with open eyes.
17 I can see him,
but not right now.
I observe him,
but from a distance.[f]
A star streams forth from Jacob;
a scepter arises from Israel.
He will crush Moab’s forehead,
along with all of Seth’s descendants.
18 Edom will be a conquered nation
and Seir will be Israel’s[g] defeated foe,
while Israel performs valiantly.
19 He will rule over Jacob,
annihilating those who survive in the city.”
20 Next, Balaam[h] looked directly at Amalek and then uttered this prophetic statement:
“Even though Amalek is an international leader,
his future is permanent destruction.”
21 Balaam also uttered this prophetic statement about the Kenites:[i]
“Your dwelling places are stable,
because your nest is carved in solid rock.
22 Nevertheless, Kain will be incinerated.
How long will it take until Asshur[j] takes you hostage?”
23 Finally, he uttered this prophetic statement:
“Ah, who can live,
unless God makes it happen?
24 Ships under control of Kittim will devastate Asshur and Eber,
until they are permanently destroyed.”
25 Then Balaam got up, returned to his country, and Balak went on his way.

Dios Habla Hoy
24 1 Pero como Balaam vio que al Señor le parecía bien bendecir a Israel, ya no fue a recibir profecías de parte de él, como lo había hecho las otras veces, sino que volvió la mirada hacia el desierto. 2 Y al ver Balaam a Israel acampado por tribus, el espíritu de Dios se apoderó de él; 3 entonces Balaam pronunció esta profecía:
«Mensaje de Balaam, hijo de Beor,
hombre de mirada penetrante,
4 que al caer en éxtasis ve con más claridad,
que recibe mensajes y tiene visiones
de parte del Dios todopoderoso.
5 ¡Jacob, qué bellas son tus tiendas!
¡Qué bello, Israel, tu campamento!
6 Parecen largas filas de palmeras,
jardines junto a un río,
áloes plantados por el Señor,
¡cedros a la orilla del agua!
7 Israel tendrá agua en abundancia
para beber y regar sus sembrados.
Su rey dominará a Agag;
su poder real será muy grande.
8 Dios, que los sacó de Egipto, es para ellos
lo que son para el búfalo sus cuernos.
Israel devorará a las naciones enemigas;
les romperá los huesos,
y los herirá con sus flechas.
9 Cuando se acuesta a descansar, parece un león:
nadie se atreve a despertarlo.
¡Bendito sea el que te bendiga,
y maldito el que te maldiga!»
Profecías de Balaam
10 Al oír esto, Balac se enojó mucho con Balaam, y golpeando las manos le dijo:
—Yo te llamé para que maldijeras a mis enemigos, y resulta que ya van tres veces que los bendices. 11 ¡Más te vale volver a tu casa! Yo había prometido hacerte grandes honores, pero el Señor lo ha impedido.
12 Y Balaam le respondió:
—Ya les advertí a tus mensajeros 13 que, aunque me dieras todo el oro y la plata que caben en tu palacio, yo no podría desobedecer las órdenes del Señor ni hacer nada bueno ni malo por mi propia cuenta, y que sólo diría lo que el Señor me ordenara decir. 14 Pues bien, regreso a mi país; pero antes voy a decirte lo que este pueblo hará en el futuro con tu pueblo.
15 Entonces Balaam pronunció esta profecía:
«Mensaje de Balaam, hijo de Beor,
hombre de mirada penetrante,
16 que al caer en éxtasis ve con más claridad,
que conoce lo que el Altísimo conoce,
que recibe mensajes y tiene visiones
de parte del Dios todopoderoso.
17 Veo algo en el futuro, diviso algo allá muy lejos:
es una estrella que sale de Jacob,
un rey que se levanta en Israel.
Le aplastará la cabeza a Moab,
aplastará a todos los descendientes de Set.
18 Conquistará Edom,
se apoderará de Seír, que es su enemigo.
Israel realizará grandes hazañas.
19 Un vencedor saldrá de Jacob
y destruirá a los que queden en la ciudad.»
20 Después vio Balaam a Amalec, y pronunció esta profecía:
«Amalec es una nación importante,
pero terminará destruida por completo.»
21-22 También vio a los quenitas, y pronunció esta profecía:
«Descendientes de Caín:
aunque sus refugios sean firmes,
aunque hayan puesto su nido entre las rocas,
ese nido será destruido por el fuego
cuando Asiria los haga prisioneros.»
23 Después pronunció esta profecía:
«¡Ay! ¿Quién vivirá todavía
cuando Dios haga estas cosas?
24 Vienen naves de la costa de Chipre, y dejarán en ruinas a Asiria y a Éber,
pues también Éber será destruido.»
25 Después de esto Balaam se puso en camino y volvió a su casa. Balac también se puso en camino.

Balaam Foretells the Happiness of Israel
24 Now when Balaam saw that it pleased the Lord to bless Israel, he did not go as at (A)other times, to seek to use [a]sorcery, but he set his face toward the wilderness. 2 And Balaam raised his eyes, and saw Israel (B)encamped according to their tribes; and (C)the Spirit of God came upon him.
3 (D)Then he took up his oracle and said:
“The utterance of Balaam the son of Beor,
The utterance of the man whose eyes are opened,
4 The utterance of him who hears the words of God,
Who sees the vision of the Almighty,
Who (E)falls down, with eyes wide open:
5 “How lovely are your tents, O Jacob!
Your dwellings, O Israel!
6 Like valleys that stretch out,
Like gardens by the riverside,
(F)Like aloes (G)planted by the Lord,
Like cedars beside the waters.
7 He shall pour water from his buckets,
And his seed shall be (H)in many waters.
8 “God(K) brings him out of Egypt;
He has strength like a wild ox;
He shall (L)consume the nations, his enemies;
He shall (M)break their bones
And (N)pierce them with his arrows.
9 ‘He(O) bows down, he lies down as a lion;
And as a lion, who shall rouse him?’
(P)“Blessed is he who blesses you,
And cursed is he who curses you.”
10 Then Balak’s anger was aroused against Balaam, and he (Q)struck his hands together; and Balak said to Balaam, (R)“I called you to curse my enemies, and look, you have bountifully blessed them these three times! 11 Now therefore, flee to your place. (S)I said I would greatly honor you, but in fact, the Lord has kept you back from honor.”
12 So Balaam said to Balak, “Did I not also speak to your messengers whom you sent to me, saying, 13 ‘If Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the word of the Lord, to do good or bad of my own will. What the Lord says, that I must speak’? 14 And now, indeed, I am going to my people. Come, (T)I will advise you what this people will do to your people in the (U)latter days.”
Balaam’s Fourth Prophecy
15 So he took up his oracle and said:
“The utterance of Balaam the son of Beor,
And the utterance of the man whose eyes are opened;
16 The utterance of him who hears the words of God,
And has the knowledge of the Most High,
Who sees the vision of the Almighty,
Who falls down, with eyes wide open:
17 “I(V) see Him, but not now;
I behold Him, but not near;
(W)A Star shall come out of Jacob;
(X)A Scepter shall rise out of Israel,
And [b]batter the brow of Moab,
And destroy all the sons of [c]tumult.
18 “And (Y)Edom shall be a possession;
Seir also, his enemies, shall be a possession,
While Israel does [d]valiantly.
19 (Z)Out of Jacob One [e]shall have dominion,
And destroy the remains of the city.”
20 Then he looked on Amalek, and he took up his oracle and said:
“Amalek was first among the nations,
But shall be last until he perishes.”
21 Then he looked on the Kenites, and he took up his oracle and said:
“Firm is your dwelling place,
And your nest is set in the rock;
22 Nevertheless Kain shall be burned.
How long until Asshur carries you away captive?”
23 Then he took up his oracle and said:
“Alas! Who shall live when God does this?
24 But ships shall come from the coasts of (AA)Cyprus,[f]
And they shall afflict Asshur and afflict (AB)Eber,
And so shall [g]Amalek, until he perishes.”
25 So Balaam rose and departed and (AC)returned to his place; Balak also went his way.
