(A)They assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron and said to them, (B)“You have gone too far! For (C)all in the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the Lord is among them. Why then do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the Lord?”

28 For (A)no one is a Jew (B)who is merely one outwardly, nor is circumcision outward and physical. 29 But a Jew is one (C)inwardly, and (D)circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter. (E)His praise is not from man but from God.

And do not presume to say to yourselves, (A)‘We have Abraham as our father,’ for I tell you, God is able from (B)these stones to raise up children for Abraham. 10 Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: (A)Amend your ways and your deeds, and I will let you dwell in this place. (B)Do not trust in these deceptive words: ‘This is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord.’

“For if you truly (C)amend your ways and your deeds, if you truly (D)execute justice one with another, if you (E)do not oppress the sojourner, the fatherless, or the widow, (F)or shed innocent blood in this place, (G)and if you do not go after other gods to your own harm, (H)then I will let you dwell in this place, (I)in the land that I gave of old to your fathers forever.

“Behold, you trust in deceptive words to no avail. (J)Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, (K)swear falsely, (L)make offerings to Baal, (M)and go after other gods that you have not known, 10 and then come and stand before me in this house, (N)which is called by my name, and say, ‘We are delivered!’—only to go on doing all these abominations? 11 (O)Has this house, (P)which is called by my name, (Q)become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, I myself have seen it, declares the Lord. 12 Go now to (R)my place that was in Shiloh, (S)where I made my name dwell at first, and (T)see what I did to it because of the evil of my people Israel.

they have become a burden to me;
    I am weary of bearing them.

(I)even though you make many prayers,
    I will not listen;
    (J)your hands are full of blood.
