² And they said, “Has the Lord indeed spoken only through Moses? ^(A)Has he not spoken through us also?” And ^(B)the Lord heard it.

¹² And you shall know that I am the Lord.

^(A)“I have heard all the revilings that you uttered against the mountains of Israel, saying, ‘They are laid desolate; ^(B)they are given us to devour.’ ¹³ And ^(C)you magnified yourselves against me ^(D)with your mouth, and multiplied your words against me; I heard it.

^3 (A)They assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron and said to them, ^(B)“You have gone too far! For ^(C)all in the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the Lord is among them. Why then do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the Lord?”

^4 (A)It may be that the Lord your God will hear the words of the Rabshakeh, whom his master the king of Assyria has sent to mock the living God, and will rebuke the words that the Lord your God has heard; therefore lift up your prayer for ^(B)the remnant that is left.’”

The People Complain

11 And ^(A)the people complained in the hearing of the Lord about their misfortunes, and when the Lord heard it, ^(B)his anger was kindled, and ^(C)the fire of the Lord burned among them and consumed some outlying parts of the camp.

⁵ Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. ^(A)Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for ^(B)“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

¹⁴ Do all things ^(A)without grumbling or ^(B)disputing,
