²² And they had gone up into ^(A)the Negev and ^[a]came to Hebron where ^(B)Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the ^[b]descendants of ^(C)Anak were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before ^(D)Zoan in Egypt.)

²⁸ Nevertheless, ^(A)the people who live in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large; and moreover, we saw ^(B)the ^[a]descendants of Anak there.

³³ There also we saw the ^(A)Nephilim (the sons of Anak are part of the Nephilim); and ^(B)we became like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”

²¹ Then Joshua came at that time and cut off ^(A)the Anakim from the hill country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab and from all the hill country of Judah and from all the hill country of Israel. Joshua devoted them to destruction with their cities. ²² There were no Anakim left in the land of the sons of Israel; only in Gaza, in ^(B)Gath, and in ^(C)Ashdod some remained.
