²² And they had gone up into ^(A)the Negev and ^[a]came to Hebron where ^(B)Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the ^[b]descendants of ^(C)Anak were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before ^(D)Zoan in Egypt.)

¹³ So Joshua ^(A)blessed him and ^(B)gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance. ¹⁴ Therefore, Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite until this day because he fully followed Yahweh, the God of Israel. ¹⁵ Now the name of Hebron was formerly ^[a]Kiriath-arba; for Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim. ^(C)Then the land was quiet from war.

¹¹ So ^(A)they gave them Kiriath-arba (Arba being the ^(B)father of Anak), that is, Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, with its pasture lands all around it. ¹² But the fields of the city and its villages they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as his possession.

¹³ Thus ^(C)to the sons of Aaron the priest they gave ^(D)Hebron, the city of refuge for the manslayer, with its pasture lands, ^(E)Libnah also with its pasture lands,
