¹⁷ When Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, he said to them, “Go up ^[a]there into ^(A)the ^[b]Negev; then go up into the hill country.

^25 (A)Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites live in the valleys; turn tomorrow and set out to the wilderness by the way of the ^[a]Red Sea.”

⁴⁵ Then the Amalekites and the Canaanites who lived in that hill country came down, and struck them and beat them down as far as ^(A)Hormah.
