Now the (A)mixed multitude who were among them [a]yielded to (B)intense craving; so the children of Israel also wept again and said: (C)“Who will give us meat to eat? (D)We remember the fish which we ate freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic; but now (E)our whole being is dried up; there is nothing at all except this manna before our eyes!”

Now (F)the manna was like coriander seed, and its color like the color of bdellium. The people went about and gathered it, ground it on millstones or beat it in the mortar, cooked it in pans, and made cakes of it; and (G)its taste was like the taste of pastry prepared with oil. And (H)when the dew fell on the camp in the night, the manna fell on it.

10 Then Moses heard the people weeping throughout their families, everyone at the door of his tent; and (I)the anger of the Lord was greatly aroused; Moses also was displeased. 11 (J)So Moses said to the Lord, “Why have You afflicted Your servant? And why have I not found favor in Your sight, that You have laid the [b]burden of all these people on me? 12 Did I conceive all these people? Did I beget them, that You should say to me, (K)‘Carry them in your bosom, as a (L)guardian carries a nursing child,’ to the land which You (M)swore[c] to their fathers? 13 (N)Where am I to get meat to give to all these people? For they weep all over me, saying, ‘Give us meat, that we may eat.’

(E)Now the manna was like coriander seed, and its appearance like that of [e](F)bdellium. The people would roam about and gather it and grind it [f]between two millstones, or pound it in the mortar, and boil it in the pot and make loaves with it; and its taste was like the taste of [g]cake baked with oil. (G)When the dew came down on the camp at night, the manna would come down [h]with it.

The Complaint of Moses

10 Now Moses heard the people weeping throughout their families, each one at the entrance of his tent; and the anger of the Lord became very hot, and [i]Moses was displeased. 11 (H)So Moses said to the Lord, “Why have You [j]been so hard on Your servant? And why have I not found favor in Your sight, that You have put the burden of all this people on me? 12 Was it I who conceived all this people? Or did I give birth to them, that You should say to me, ‘Carry them [k]in your arms, as a [l](I)nurse carries a nursing infant, to the land which (J)You swore to their fathers’? 13 Where am I to get meat to give to (K)all this people? For they weep before me, saying, ‘Give us meat so that we may eat!’

The [a]rabble among them [who followed Israel from Egypt] had greedy desires [for familiar and delicious food], and the Israelites wept again and said, “Who will give us meat to eat? We remember the fish we ate freely and without cost in Egypt, the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic. But now our [b]appetite is gone; there is nothing at all [in the way of food] [c]to be seen but this manna.”

The manna was like coriander seed, and it looked like [d]bdellium. The people went about and gathered it, and ground it in mills or beat it in mortars, and boiled it in pots, and made cakes with it; and it tasted like cakes baked with fresh [olive] oil. When the dew fell on the camp at night, the manna fell with it.

The Complaint of Moses

10 Now Moses heard the people weeping [in self-pity] throughout their families, every man at the doorway of his tent; and the anger of the Lord blazed hotly, and [e]Moses regarded their behavior as evil. 11 So Moses said to the Lord, “Why have You been so hard on Your servant? And why have I not found favor in Your sight, that You have placed the burden of all these people on me? 12 Was it I who conceived all these people? Was it I who brought them forth, that You should say to me, ‘Carry them in your [f]arms as a nurse carries the nursing infant, to the land which You swore to their fathers’? 13 Where am I to get meat to give to all these people? For they weep before me and say, ‘Give us meat, so that we may eat.’

Quail From the Lord

The rabble with them began to crave other food,(A) and again the Israelites started wailing(B) and said, “If only we had meat to eat! We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost—also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic.(C) But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna!(D)

The manna was like coriander seed(E) and looked like resin.(F) The people went around gathering it,(G) and then ground it in a hand mill or crushed it in a mortar. They cooked it in a pot or made it into loaves. And it tasted like something made with olive oil. When the dew(H) settled on the camp at night, the manna also came down.

10 Moses heard the people of every family wailing(I) at the entrance to their tents. The Lord became exceedingly angry, and Moses was troubled. 11 He asked the Lord, “Why have you brought this trouble(J) on your servant? What have I done to displease you that you put the burden of all these people on me?(K) 12 Did I conceive all these people? Did I give them birth? Why do you tell me to carry them in my arms, as a nurse carries an infant,(L) to the land you promised on oath(M) to their ancestors?(N) 13 Where can I get meat for all these people?(O) They keep wailing to me, ‘Give us meat to eat!’
