14 それを聞いた人々は、絶望的な声を上げて、夜通し泣き続けました。 2-3 やがて嘆き声は、モーセとアロンへの痛烈な非難の声に変わりました。「なんてことだ。こんなことならエジプトで死んだほうがよかった。そんな国に行くくらいなら、この荒野で死んだほうがまだましだ。神様はおれたちを殺すつもりなんだ。そうなったら、妻や子は奴隷にされてしまう。さっさと引き返して、エジプトへ帰ろう。」
4 この声は野営地中に広まり、「エジプトに連れ戻してくれる指導者を立てよう」と、人々は叫ぶのでした。
5 モーセとアロンはみなの前で顔を地につけ、ひれ伏しました。 6 偵察に加わったヌンの子ヨシュアとエフネの子カレブは、人々のあまりのふがいない姿に着物を引き裂き、 7 こう訴えました。「私たちの目の前にあるのはすばらしい国だ。 8 それに主が味方なのだ。主は私たちを安全に導き、必ずその国を下さる。乳とみつの流れるすばらしい国を下さるのだ。 9 主に背くのはやめよう。人間など恐れなくていい。主がいっしょにおられる。だれも神様にはかなわないのだから、恐れることはない！」
10-11 ところが人々は、二人の言うことを聞こうともせず、かえって石で打ち殺そうとしました。その時、神の栄光が現れ、声が響きました。「モーセよ、この者たちはいつまでわたしを軽んじるのか。あれだけの奇跡を見ても、まだわたしを信じないのか。 12 こうなったら、彼らを疫病で滅ぼしてしまおう。代わりにあなたから、もっと強く、もっと偉大な国民を起こそう。」
13 しかしモーセは、必死になって主に願いました。「ですが、そのようなことをエジプト人が聞いたら、彼らは何と言うでしょう。私たちがエジプトから助け出された時、彼らはあなたの力をいやというほど思い知ったはずです。 14 そのことはすでにこの地の住民にも知れ渡り、彼らは、あなたが私たちと共にいて、親しくかかわってくださっていることを知っているのです。昼も夜も私たちを導き守る雲の柱、火の柱が彼らにも見えないはずはありません。 15 今、イスラエルの民を一人残らず滅ぼしでもされたなら、どうなるでしょう。あなたのすばらしさを耳にしていた人々は、これ幸いに、 16 『なんだ、あの神は。荒野でイスラエル人どもを養うこともできず、結局は殺してしまった。約束の地へ連れて行く力など、初めからなかったのだ』と、ばかにするに違いありません。 17-18 お願いです。どうか力をお示しください。どうか忍耐してください。以前と変わらず私たちを愛し、罪を赦してください。確かにあなたは、『罪は必ず罰する。父親の罪を三、四代にわたるまで罰する』と言われました。 19 しかし、あえてお願いします。私たちをお赦しください。エジプトを出てから今日まで、いつも赦してくださったように、今も変わらず私たちを愛してください。」
20-23 「あなたがそれほど言うなら赦そう。だが、これだけは言っておく。エジプトでもこの荒野でも、すばらしい奇跡を見ながら十度も強情を張り、わたしを信ぜず、従おうともしなかった者たちは、決して約束の国を見ることはできない。栄光が全地に満ちている神であるわたしがこう言う以上、それは絶対だ。 24 ただ、カレブは違う。彼はいつもわたしを信じ、従い通した。彼はカナンに入り、子孫たちにその地を残す。 25 しかし、あなたがたは今、アマレク人や渓谷地帯に住むカナン人を恐れているので、ひとまず引き返すのだ。そして、明日から向きを変えて紅海に向かいなさい。」
26-27 このあと神は、モーセとアロンだけに語りました。「このひねくれた民は、いつになったら不平を言わなくなるのだろう。もう十分だ。 28 彼らに言いなさい。『主はあなたがたが何よりも恐れていることをされる。 29-30 あなたがたはみな、この荒野で死ぬのだ。二十歳以上の者で主に不平を言った者は、エフネの子カレブとヌンの子ヨシュアのほかは一人も約束の国に入れない。 31 あなたがたは子どもが奴隷にされると言ったが、神は彼らを守り、あなたがたがさんざん文句を言ったカナンの国を彼らに与える。 32 あなたがたの死体は、この荒野に捨てられる。 33 最後の一人が死ぬまで、あなたがたの子らはあてもなく四十年もさまよい歩く。それもみな、主を信じなかったからだ。 34-35 偵察隊が四十日間カナンの国にいたように、彼らの一日を一年と数えて四十年間、荒野にいて罪を償わなければならない。神に背けばどうなるか、よく思い知るだろう。それらの者は一人残らずこの荒野で死ぬと、主が言われたのだ。』」
36-38 このことがあってから、人々を不安にして主に背くようにそそのかした十人の偵察者たちが、疫病にかかって死にました。生き残ったのはヨシュアとカレブの二人だけでした。 39 モーセが神の言われたことを人々に告げると、野営地中が深い悲しみに覆われました。
40 翌朝早く、人々は約束の地を目指し、山地の方角に向かって出発しようとしました。「私たちが悪かった。これからは主の約束を信じて進もう。」
41 するとモーセが言いました。「もう遅い。荒野へ行けと言われる主の命令に背くつもりか。 42 勝手に進んだら、敵にやられるだけだ。主はもういっしょにはおられないのだぞ。 43 そこにはアマレク人やカナン人がいるのを忘れたのか。おまえたちが主を見捨てたから、今度は主がおまえたちをお見捨てになるのだ。」
モーセが止めるのも聞かず、 44 彼らはどんどん山地に向かって進みました。しかし契約の箱もモーセも、野営地にとどまっていました。 45 案の定、山地に住んでいたアマレク人やカナン人が彼らに襲いかかり、彼らはやっとの思いでホルマまで逃げました。
ささげ物についての追加規定
15 1-2 主はモーセに命じて、人々にこう言わせました。「あなたがたの子が、ついにわたしの与える地に住み、 3-5 わたしを喜ばせるために、焼き尽くすいけにえをはじめ、火で焼くいけにえをささげる場合には、次のようにしなさい。いけにえは羊かやぎ、あるいは牛にし、普通のものも、誓願を果たすためのものも、自分から進んでささげるものも、年ごとの祭りのときにささげるものも、それぞれ穀物の供え物、飲み物の供え物といっしょにささげなさい。子羊をささげるときは、〇･九五リットルの油で混ぜた上等の小麦粉二･三リットルを、〇･九五リットルのぶどう酒といっしょにささげなさい。
6 雄羊の時は、一･三リットルの油で混ぜた上等の小麦粉四･六リットル、 7 さらに、わたしへのなだめの香りとして、ぶどう酒一･三リットルをささげなさい。
8-10 若い牛のときは、一･九リットルの油で混ぜた上等の小麦粉六・九リットルとぶどう酒一･九リットル。これを火で焼くと、とても良い香りがする。
11-12 以上が牛、雄羊、子羊、子やぎのいけにえといっしょにささげる物についての決まりである。 13-14 火で焼くささげ物をしてわたしを喜ばせようと思う者は、イスラエル人でも、在留外国人でも、みなこの決められたことを守らなければならない。 15-16 おきてはだれに対しても同じであり、このことは代々にわたって変わらない。わたしの前では、すべての人が平等だから、すべての人が同じおきてを守らなければならない。」
17-18 主はさらにモーセに告げて言いました。「人々にこう教えなさい。『約束の国に着いたら、 19-21 毎年、収穫の一部を主にささげなさい。ささげるときはこうする。小麦の初物の粗びき粉でドーナツ型のパンを焼き、それを祭壇の前で前後に揺り動かしてささげる。これが小麦粉のささげ方で、代々このように行わなければならない。
22 うっかりして、わたしが教えた指示を守らなかったり、 23-24 命じられた日から、命令を一つでも守らなかった場合、失敗を素直に認め、民が無知ゆえに守らなかったのなら、焼き尽くすいけにえとして若い雄牛を一頭ささげなさい。わたしはその香りを受け入れる。また、いつもの穀物の供え物、飲み物の供え物といっしょに、罪の赦しのためのいけにえとして、雄のやぎを一頭ささげなさい。
25 それから、祭司が民全体の罪を償う儀式をすれば、彼らは赦される。この場合は、間違って罪を犯したのだから、神に、火で焼くいけにえと罪の赦しのためのいけにえをささげることによって償うことができる。 26 民全体の罪は、在留外国人も含めて、このようにして赦される。
27 また個人が過って罪を犯した場合は、一歳の雌やぎを一頭、罪の赦しのためのいけにえとしてささげなさい。 28 祭司はその者が赦されるように、罪を償う儀式をする。 29 在留外国人の場合も同じである。
30 しかし、イスラエル人でも在留外国人でも、故意に罪を犯した者は神を冒瀆する者で、殺されなければならない。 31 主のことばを軽んじ、わざとその命令を破った罰だ。』」
安息日の違反
32 人々が荒野にいたある日のことです。安息日にたきぎを集めているのが見つかって、 33 一人の男が捕らえられました。男は、モーセとアロン、他の指導者たちの前に連れて来られましたが、 34 どう裁いてよいかわからず、ひとまず監禁しておくことになりました。
35 やがて、主はモーセに言いました。「あの男を死刑にしなさい。宿営の外で、全員が石を投げつけて殺さなければならない。」
36 そこで人々は、男を宿営の外へ引いて行き、命じられたとおりに処刑しました。
37-38 主はまた、モーセに命じました。「人々にこう言いなさい。『着物のすその四隅に青いひもで房をつけなさい。これから代々そうするのだ。 39 その房を見るたびに、わたしの命令を思い出すためだ。もう以前のように、自分勝手にやりたいことをやったり、他の神々に仕えたりしてはいけない。主のおきてをしっかり守りなさい。 40 その房は、イスラエルの神だけに従っていかなければならないことを思い出させてくれるだろう。 41 あなたがたをエジプトから助け出したのはわたしである。わたしがあなたがたの神なのだ。』」
コラの反逆
16 ある日のこと、レビのひ孫で、ケハテの孫に当たるイツハルの子コラは、ルベン族のエリアブの子ダタンとアビラム、それにペレテの子オンとともに、 2 人々をそそのかしてモーセに逆らわせました。その支持者には、名の知れた二百五十人の指導者たちもいたのです。
3 彼らは徒党を組み、モーセとアロンのところに来て、二人に盾突きました。「分を越えるのもいいかげんにしてほしい。二人の説教はもうたくさんだ、大した人物でもないくせに。われわれだって主に選ばれた者ではないか。主はわれわれみなの主だ。二人だけが特別に偉いのだろうか。そんなに威張る権利がどこにあるんだ。」
4 これを聞くとモーセは、地にひれ伏しました。 5 それから、コラとその仲間に言いました。「明日の朝、主は、だれが主の選んだ正しい指導者か、だれがきよく、だれが祭司かをはっきりさせてくださる。 6-7 あした香炉を持って来て、主にささげる香をたきなさい。そうすれば、主がだれをお選びになったかわかるはずだ。レビの子たちよ、あなたがたこそ分を越えている。」
8-9 さらに、モーセはコラに言いました。「イスラエルの神があなたを選び、おそばで幕屋の仕事をさせ、人々の前で奉仕させてくださるだけでは不足なのか。 10 この仕事ができるのはレビ族だけだというのに、それでも不満なのか。だから、祭司の職を求めるのか。 11 祭司になりたいばかりに、あなたは主に背いているのだ。アロンに不平ばかり並べたてるが、いったい彼が何をしたというのか。」
12 モーセは続けて、エリアブの子ダタンとアビラムを呼びつけましたが、二人は来ようともしません。 13 そのうえ、モーセの口まねをして言い返したのです。「あんたこそ、美しいエジプトからわれわれを連れ出して、こんなひどい荒野でのたれ死にさせるだけでは不足なんですか。それだけでは不満で、王様にでもなろうというのですか。とんでもないことだ。 14 あんたは約束の国とかいうけっこうな地に、ちっとも連れて行ってくれないではないか。畑やぶどう畑をくれるって？ もうだまされないぞ。ついて来いと言ったって行くものか！」
15 モーセは激しく怒り、主に願いました。「あの者たちのいけにえを受け入れないでください。これまで私は、彼らのろば一頭さえ取り上げたこともなく、彼らを傷つけたこともないのに、あんな言いがかりをつけてくるのです。」
16 それからコラに言いました。「明日、あなたもあなたの仲間全員も、アロンとともに主の前に出なさい。 17 香を入れた香炉を忘れてはいけない。一人一つずつ二百五十個を用意し、あなたもアロンも自分のものを持って来なさい。」
18 彼らはそのとおりにしました。香炉を持ち、火をつけ、モーセとアロンといっしょに幕屋の入口に立ちました。 19 事の成り行きを見ようと、民がみな集まって来ました。コラは人々をけしかけ、モーセとアロンに逆らわせようとしました。と、その時、さっとあたりが明るくなり、 20 神の声がとどろきました。 21 「モーセとアロン、この者たちから離れなさい。わたしは今すぐこの者たちを滅ぼす。」
22 しかし、モーセとアロンは主の前にひれ伏して願いました。「ああ、神様。世界にただおひとりの神様。たった一人の罪のために、すべての人を罰するのですか。」
23-24 すると主は、モーセに答えました。「わかった。それなら、人々にコラとダタンとアビラムの天幕から離れるように言いなさい。」
25 モーセは長老たちを従え、ダタンとアビラムの天幕（テント）の方に走って行き、 26 叫びました。「急いでその天幕を離れなさい。彼らの持ち物にさわるな。さもないと、仲間ということで殺されてしまうぞ。」
27 驚いた人々は、コラとダタンとアビラムの天幕から離れました。ダタンとアビラムは、妻や子どもたちを連れて天幕を出て入口に立ちました。 28 モーセは宣言しました。「これから起こることを見れば、主が私を遣わされたことが、はっきりわかるだろう。私はこれまで、自分の考えでやってきたのではない。 29 いいか、もしこの者たちがよくある事故や病気で死んだのなら、うそをついたのは私のほうだ。 30 しかし、主が奇跡を起こして地面を裂き、地が彼らを天幕もろとものみ込み、生きたまま地獄に落とされたなら、主を冒瀆したのは彼らのほうだ。」
31 こう言い終わるか終わらないうちに、なんと、コラたちの足もとの地面がぱっくりと裂け、 32 いっしょにいた家族、友人を、天幕もろとものみ込みました。 33 彼らは一人残らず生きたまま地獄に落ち、地の底に閉じ込められたのです。 34 彼らの回りにいた人々はみな、彼らの絶叫を聞いて、自分たちものみ込まれると思って、逃げ惑いました。 35 その時、天から火が下り、香をささげていた二百五十人を焼き殺しました。
36-37 主はモーセに命じました。「祭司アロンの子エルアザルに、香炉を火の中から取り出させなさい。その香炉はわたしにささげられた神聖なものだからだ。 38 また、罪を犯して死んだ者たちの香炉から、火のついた香を取り出してまき散らすように言いなさい。次に、香炉を打ち延ばして一枚の板にし、それで祭壇を覆いなさい。この香炉は、わたしの前で使ったから神聖なものだ。こうしておけば、祭壇の覆いを見るたびにこの出来事を思い出すだろう。」
39 祭司エルアザルは、命じられたとおり二百五十個の青銅の香炉を板金にし、祭壇に覆いをかけました。 40 アロンの子孫でない者はだれも、神の前で香をたいてはならないこと、これを破ればコラと同じ目に会うことを思い出させるためでした。すべて主がモーセに命じたとおりです。
41 ところが翌朝になると、人々はモーセとアロンを批判し始めたのです。「あなたたちは主の民を殺してしまったのだ。」
42 批判のうずはたちまち広がり、険悪な雰囲気になっていきました。と、突然、雲がわき起こり、人々が振り返って幕屋を見ると、目もくらむばかりに輝いていました。 43-44 モーセとアロンが幕屋の入口に立つと、主はモーセに命じました。 45 「人々から離れなさい。今すぐ彼らを滅ぼす。」それを聞いて、モーセとアロンは主の前にひれ伏しました。
46 モーセはアロンに言いました。「急いで香炉を持って来て、祭壇の火で香をたき、すぐ人々のところへ行って主の赦しを願ってくれ。早くしないと手遅れになる。見なさい、もう神罰が下って病気で倒れた者もいる。」
47 アロンは言われたとおり、人々のところへ走って行きました。すでに疫病がはやりだしていたので、急いで香をたき、主の赦しを願いました。 48 アロンが死者と生きている者の間に立っていると、ようやく疫病は収まりましたが、前日のコラの事件で死んだ者とは別に、 49 死者はすでに一万四、七〇〇人にも達していたのです。 50 疫病が収まると、アロンは幕屋の入口にいたモーセのところへ戻りました。

The People Rebel
14 That night all the members of the community raised their voices and wept aloud.(A) 2 All the Israelites grumbled(B) against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them, “If only we had died in Egypt!(C) Or in this wilderness!(D) 3 Why is the Lord bringing us to this land only to let us fall by the sword?(E) Our wives and children(F) will be taken as plunder.(G) Wouldn’t it be better for us to go back to Egypt?(H)” 4 And they said to each other, “We should choose a leader and go back to Egypt.(I)”
5 Then Moses and Aaron fell facedown(J) in front of the whole Israelite assembly(K) gathered there. 6 Joshua son of Nun(L) and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had explored the land, tore their clothes(M) 7 and said to the entire Israelite assembly, “The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good.(N) 8 If the Lord is pleased with us,(O) he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey,(P) and will give it to us.(Q) 9 Only do not rebel(R) against the Lord. And do not be afraid(S) of the people of the land,(T) because we will devour them. Their protection is gone, but the Lord is with(U) us.(V) Do not be afraid of them.”(W)
10 But the whole assembly talked about stoning(X) them. Then the glory of the Lord(Y) appeared at the tent of meeting to all the Israelites. 11 The Lord said to Moses, “How long will these people treat me with contempt?(Z) How long will they refuse to believe in me,(AA) in spite of all the signs(AB) I have performed among them? 12 I will strike them down with a plague(AC) and destroy them, but I will make you into a nation(AD) greater and stronger than they.”(AE)
13 Moses said to the Lord, “Then the Egyptians will hear about it! By your power you brought these people up from among them.(AF) 14 And they will tell the inhabitants of this land about it. They have already heard(AG) that you, Lord, are with these people(AH) and that you, Lord, have been seen face to face,(AI) that your cloud stays over them,(AJ) and that you go before them in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.(AK) 15 If you put all these people to death, leaving none alive, the nations who have heard this report about you will say, 16 ‘The Lord was not able to bring these people into the land he promised them on oath,(AL) so he slaughtered them in the wilderness.’(AM)
17 “Now may the Lord’s strength be displayed, just as you have declared: 18 ‘The Lord is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion.(AN) Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.’(AO) 19 In accordance with your great love, forgive(AP) the sin of these people,(AQ) just as you have pardoned them from the time they left Egypt until now.”(AR)
20 The Lord replied, “I have forgiven them,(AS) as you asked. 21 Nevertheless, as surely as I live(AT) and as surely as the glory of the Lord(AU) fills the whole earth,(AV) 22 not one of those who saw my glory and the signs(AW) I performed in Egypt and in the wilderness but who disobeyed me and tested me ten times(AX)— 23 not one of them will ever see the land I promised on oath(AY) to their ancestors. No one who has treated me with contempt(AZ) will ever see it.(BA) 24 But because my servant Caleb(BB) has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly,(BC) I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it.(BD) 25 Since the Amalekites(BE) and the Canaanites(BF) are living in the valleys, turn(BG) back tomorrow and set out toward the desert along the route to the Red Sea.[a](BH)”
26 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron: 27 “How long will this wicked community grumble against me? I have heard the complaints of these grumbling Israelites.(BI) 28 So tell them, ‘As surely as I live,(BJ) declares the Lord, I will do to you(BK) the very thing I heard you say: 29 In this wilderness your bodies will fall(BL)—every one of you twenty years old or more(BM) who was counted in the census(BN) and who has grumbled against me. 30 Not one of you will enter the land(BO) I swore with uplifted hand(BP) to make your home, except Caleb son of Jephunneh(BQ) and Joshua son of Nun.(BR) 31 As for your children that you said would be taken as plunder, I will bring them in to enjoy the land you have rejected.(BS) 32 But as for you, your bodies will fall(BT) in this wilderness. 33 Your children will be shepherds here for forty years,(BU) suffering for your unfaithfulness, until the last of your bodies lies in the wilderness. 34 For forty years(BV)—one year for each of the forty days you explored the land(BW)—you will suffer for your sins and know what it is like to have me against you.’ 35 I, the Lord, have spoken, and I will surely do these things(BX) to this whole wicked community, which has banded together against me. They will meet their end in this wilderness; here they will die.(BY)”
36 So the men Moses had sent(BZ) to explore the land, who returned and made the whole community grumble(CA) against him by spreading a bad report(CB) about it— 37 these men who were responsible for spreading the bad report(CC) about the land were struck down and died of a plague(CD) before the Lord. 38 Of the men who went to explore the land,(CE) only Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh survived.(CF)
39 When Moses reported this(CG) to all the Israelites, they mourned(CH) bitterly. 40 Early the next morning they set out for the highest point in the hill country,(CI) saying, “Now we are ready to go up to the land the Lord promised. Surely we have sinned!(CJ)”
41 But Moses said, “Why are you disobeying the Lord’s command? This will not succeed!(CK) 42 Do not go up, because the Lord is not with you. You will be defeated by your enemies,(CL) 43 for the Amalekites(CM) and the Canaanites(CN) will face you there. Because you have turned away from the Lord, he will not be with you(CO) and you will fall by the sword.”
44 Nevertheless, in their presumption they went up(CP) toward the highest point in the hill country, though neither Moses nor the ark of the Lord’s covenant moved from the camp.(CQ) 45 Then the Amalekites and the Canaanites(CR) who lived in that hill country(CS) came down and attacked them and beat them down all the way to Hormah.(CT)
Supplementary Offerings
15 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘After you enter the land I am giving you(CU) as a home 3 and you present to the Lord food offerings from the herd or the flock,(CV) as an aroma pleasing to the Lord(CW)—whether burnt offerings(CX) or sacrifices, for special vows or freewill offerings(CY) or festival offerings(CZ)— 4 then the person who brings an offering shall present to the Lord a grain offering(DA) of a tenth of an ephah[b] of the finest flour(DB) mixed with a quarter of a hin[c] of olive oil. 5 With each lamb(DC) for the burnt offering or the sacrifice, prepare a quarter of a hin of wine(DD) as a drink offering.(DE)
6 “‘With a ram(DF) prepare a grain offering(DG) of two-tenths of an ephah[d](DH) of the finest flour mixed with a third of a hin[e] of olive oil,(DI) 7 and a third of a hin of wine(DJ) as a drink offering.(DK) Offer it as an aroma pleasing to the Lord.(DL)
8 “‘When you prepare a young bull(DM) as a burnt offering or sacrifice, for a special vow(DN) or a fellowship offering(DO) to the Lord, 9 bring with the bull a grain offering(DP) of three-tenths of an ephah[f](DQ) of the finest flour mixed with half a hin[g] of olive oil, 10 and also bring half a hin of wine(DR) as a drink offering.(DS) This will be a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord.(DT) 11 Each bull or ram, each lamb or young goat, is to be prepared in this manner. 12 Do this for each one, for as many as you prepare.(DU)
13 “‘Everyone who is native-born(DV) must do these things in this way when they present a food offering as an aroma pleasing to the Lord.(DW) 14 For the generations to come,(DX) whenever a foreigner(DY) or anyone else living among you presents a food(DZ) offering(EA) as an aroma pleasing to the Lord, they must do exactly as you do. 15 The community is to have the same rules for you and for the foreigner residing among you; this is a lasting ordinance for the generations to come.(EB) You and the foreigner shall be the same before the Lord: 16 The same laws and regulations will apply both to you and to the foreigner residing among you.(EC)’”
17 The Lord said to Moses, 18 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When you enter the land to which I am taking you(ED) 19 and you eat the food of the land,(EE) present a portion as an offering to the Lord.(EF) 20 Present a loaf from the first of your ground meal(EG) and present it as an offering from the threshing floor.(EH) 21 Throughout the generations to come(EI) you are to give this offering to the Lord from the first of your ground meal.(EJ)
Offerings for Unintentional Sins
22 “‘Now if you as a community unintentionally fail to keep any of these commands the Lord gave Moses(EK)— 23 any of the Lord’s commands to you through him, from the day the Lord gave them and continuing through the generations to come(EL)— 24 and if this is done unintentionally(EM) without the community being aware of it,(EN) then the whole community is to offer a young bull for a burnt offering(EO) as an aroma pleasing to the Lord,(EP) along with its prescribed grain offering(EQ) and drink offering,(ER) and a male goat for a sin offering.[h](ES) 25 The priest is to make atonement for the whole Israelite community, and they will be forgiven,(ET) for it was not intentional(EU) and they have presented to the Lord for their wrong a food offering(EV) and a sin offering.(EW) 26 The whole Israelite community and the foreigners residing among them will be forgiven, because all the people were involved in the unintentional wrong.(EX)
27 “‘But if just one person sins unintentionally,(EY) that person must bring a year-old female goat for a sin offering.(EZ) 28 The priest is to make atonement(FA) before the Lord for the one who erred by sinning unintentionally, and when atonement has been made, that person will be forgiven.(FB) 29 One and the same law applies to everyone who sins unintentionally, whether a native-born Israelite or a foreigner residing among you.(FC)
30 “‘But anyone who sins defiantly,(FD) whether native-born or foreigner,(FE) blasphemes the Lord(FF) and must be cut off from the people of Israel.(FG) 31 Because they have despised(FH) the Lord’s word and broken his commands,(FI) they must surely be cut off; their guilt remains on them.(FJ)’”
The Sabbath-Breaker Put to Death
32 While the Israelites were in the wilderness,(FK) a man was found gathering wood on the Sabbath day.(FL) 33 Those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses and Aaron and the whole assembly, 34 and they kept him in custody, because it was not clear what should be done to him.(FM) 35 Then the Lord said to Moses, “The man must die.(FN) The whole assembly must stone him outside the camp.(FO)” 36 So the assembly took him outside the camp and stoned him(FP) to death,(FQ) as the Lord commanded Moses.(FR)
Tassels on Garments
37 The Lord said to Moses, 38 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘Throughout the generations to come(FS) you are to make tassels on the corners of your garments,(FT) with a blue cord on each tassel. 39 You will have these tassels to look at and so you will remember(FU) all the commands of the Lord, that you may obey them and not prostitute yourselves(FV) by chasing after the lusts of your own hearts(FW) and eyes. 40 Then you will remember to obey all my commands(FX) and will be consecrated to your God.(FY) 41 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt to be your God.(FZ) I am the Lord your God.(GA)’”
Korah, Dathan and Abiram
16 Korah(GB) son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and certain Reubenites—Dathan and Abiram(GC), sons of Eliab,(GD) and On son of Peleth—became insolent[i] 2 and rose up against Moses.(GE) With them were 250 Israelite men, well-known community leaders who had been appointed members of the council.(GF) 3 They came as a group to oppose Moses and Aaron(GG) and said to them, “You have gone too far! The whole community is holy,(GH) every one of them, and the Lord is with them.(GI) Why then do you set yourselves above the Lord’s assembly?”(GJ)
4 When Moses heard this, he fell facedown.(GK) 5 Then he said to Korah and all his followers: “In the morning the Lord will show who belongs to him and who is holy,(GL) and he will have that person come near him.(GM) The man he chooses(GN) he will cause to come near him. 6 You, Korah, and all your followers(GO) are to do this: Take censers(GP) 7 and tomorrow put burning coals(GQ) and incense(GR) in them before the Lord. The man the Lord chooses(GS) will be the one who is holy.(GT) You Levites have gone too far!”
8 Moses also said to Korah, “Now listen, you Levites! 9 Isn’t it enough(GU) for you that the God of Israel has separated you from the rest of the Israelite community and brought you near himself to do the work at the Lord’s tabernacle and to stand before the community and minister to them?(GV) 10 He has brought you and all your fellow Levites near himself, but now you are trying to get the priesthood too.(GW) 11 It is against the Lord that you and all your followers have banded together. Who is Aaron that you should grumble(GX) against him?(GY)”
12 Then Moses summoned Dathan and Abiram,(GZ) the sons of Eliab. But they said, “We will not come!(HA) 13 Isn’t it enough that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey(HB) to kill us in the wilderness?(HC) And now you also want to lord it over us!(HD) 14 Moreover, you haven’t brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey(HE) or given us an inheritance of fields and vineyards.(HF) Do you want to treat these men like slaves[j]?(HG) No, we will not come!(HH)”
15 Then Moses became very angry(HI) and said to the Lord, “Do not accept their offering. I have not taken so much as a donkey(HJ) from them, nor have I wronged any of them.”
16 Moses said to Korah, “You and all your followers are to appear before the Lord tomorrow—you and they and Aaron.(HK) 17 Each man is to take his censer and put incense in it—250 censers in all—and present it before the Lord. You and Aaron are to present your censers also.(HL)” 18 So each of them took his censer,(HM) put burning coals and incense in it, and stood with Moses and Aaron at the entrance to the tent of meeting. 19 When Korah had gathered all his followers in opposition to them(HN) at the entrance to the tent of meeting, the glory of the Lord(HO) appeared to the entire assembly. 20 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, 21 “Separate yourselves(HP) from this assembly so I can put an end to them at once.”(HQ)
22 But Moses and Aaron fell facedown(HR) and cried out, “O God, the God who gives breath to all living things,(HS) will you be angry with the entire assembly(HT) when only one man sins?”(HU)
23 Then the Lord said to Moses, 24 “Say to the assembly, ‘Move away from the tents of Korah, Dathan and Abiram.’”
25 Moses got up and went to Dathan and Abiram, and the elders of Israel(HV) followed him. 26 He warned the assembly, “Move back from the tents of these wicked men!(HW) Do not touch anything belonging to them, or you will be swept away(HX) because of all their sins.(HY)” 27 So they moved away from the tents of Korah, Dathan and Abiram.(HZ) Dathan and Abiram had come out and were standing with their wives, children(IA) and little ones at the entrances to their tents.(IB)
28 Then Moses said, “This is how you will know(IC) that the Lord has sent me(ID) to do all these things and that it was not my idea: 29 If these men die a natural death and suffer the fate of all mankind, then the Lord has not sent me.(IE) 30 But if the Lord brings about something totally new, and the earth opens its mouth(IF) and swallows them, with everything that belongs to them, and they go down alive into the realm of the dead,(IG) then you will know that these men have treated the Lord with contempt.(IH)”
31 As soon as he finished saying all this, the ground under them split apart(II) 32 and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them(IJ) and their households, and all those associated with Korah, together with their possessions. 33 They went down alive into the realm of the dead,(IK) with everything they owned; the earth closed over them, and they perished and were gone from the community. 34 At their cries, all the Israelites around them fled, shouting, “The earth is going to swallow us too!”
35 And fire came out from the Lord(IL) and consumed(IM) the 250 men who were offering the incense.
36 The Lord said to Moses, 37 “Tell Eleazar(IN) son of Aaron, the priest, to remove the censers(IO) from the charred remains and scatter the coals some distance away, for the censers are holy— 38 the censers of the men who sinned at the cost of their lives.(IP) Hammer the censers into sheets to overlay the altar,(IQ) for they were presented before the Lord and have become holy. Let them be a sign(IR) to the Israelites.”
39 So Eleazar the priest(IS) collected the bronze censers brought by those who had been burned to death,(IT) and he had them hammered out to overlay the altar, 40 as the Lord directed him through Moses. This was to remind the Israelites that no one except a descendant of Aaron should come to burn incense(IU) before the Lord,(IV) or he would become like Korah and his followers.(IW)
41 The next day the whole Israelite community grumbled against Moses and Aaron. “You have killed the Lord’s people,” they said.
42 But when the assembly gathered in opposition(IX) to Moses and Aaron and turned toward the tent of meeting, suddenly the cloud covered it and the glory of the Lord(IY) appeared. 43 Then Moses and Aaron went to the front of the tent of meeting, 44 and the Lord said to Moses, 45 “Get away from this assembly so I can put an end(IZ) to them at once.” And they fell facedown.
46 Then Moses said to Aaron, “Take your censer(JA) and put incense in it, along with burning coals from the altar, and hurry to the assembly(JB) to make atonement(JC) for them. Wrath has come out from the Lord;(JD) the plague(JE) has started.” 47 So Aaron did as Moses said, and ran into the midst of the assembly. The plague had already started among the people,(JF) but Aaron offered the incense and made atonement for them. 48 He stood between the living and the dead, and the plague stopped.(JG) 49 But 14,700 people died from the plague, in addition to those who had died because of Korah.(JH) 50 Then Aaron returned to Moses at the entrance to the tent of meeting, for the plague had stopped.[k]

2 その日は安息日だったので、イエスに敵対する者たちは、イエスの行動に目を光らせていました。この男の手を治しでもしたら、訴えてやろうと待ちかまえていたのです。 3 イエスはその男を呼び、会衆の前に立たせられました。 4 それから、敵対する者たちのほうを向いて言われました。「さあ、答えてください。安息日に良いことをするのと悪いことをするのと、どちらが正しいですか。安息日はいのちを救う日ですか、それとも殺す日ですか。」彼らは押し黙っていました。 5 イエスは、彼らの冷淡さ、頑固さを深く嘆き、怒りを込めて見回すと、その男に、「さあ、手を伸ばしてごらんなさい」と言われました。男がそのとおりにすると、男の手はたちどころに治ってしまいました。

選ばれた十二人
13 その後イエスは丘に登り、これまでに選んだ者たちを召集されました。みなが集まったところで、 14 十二人の者を特別に選び出されました。いつもそば近くに置き、彼らに福音（キリストによる救いの知らせ）を宣べ伝えさせたり、 15 悪霊を追い出させたりするためでした。
16-19 十二人の名前は次のとおりです。シモン〔イエスによって「ペテロ」と名づけられた〕、ヤコブとヨハネ〔ゼベダイの息子で、イエスから「雷の子」と呼ばれた〕、アンデレ、ピリポ、バルトロマイ、マタイ、トマス、ヤコブ〔アルパヨの息子〕、タダイ、シモン〔「熱心党」という急進派のメンバー〕、イスカリオテのユダ〔後にイエスを裏切った男〕。
20 イエスが泊まっていた家に戻られると、群衆がまた集まって来ました。まもなく家の中は人でいっぱいになり、みなは食事をする暇もないほどでした。 21 イエスのことを身内の者たちが聞き、家に連れ戻そうとしました。「あの男は気がおかしくなっている」と言う人たちがいたからです。
だれがイエスの兄弟、姉妹か
22 また、エルサレムから来ていたユダヤ教の教師たちは、こんなふうにうわさしました。「やつは、悪霊の王ベルゼブル（サタン）に取りつかれているのだ。だから、手下の悪霊どもがやつの言うことを聞いて、おとなしく引き下がるのだ。」
23 イエスは、そんなことを言う人々をそばに呼び、だれもがわかるように、たとえを使って話されました。「どうして、サタンがサタンを追い出せるでしょうか。 24 内部で分かれ争っている国は、結局自滅してしまいます。 25 争い事や不和が絶えない家庭は、崩壊するだけです。 26 サタンの場合も全く同じことです。内部で争っていたら、何もできないばかりか、生き残ることさえできません。 27 強い人の家に押し入って、その財産を盗み出すには、まずその強い人を縛り上げなければならないでしょう。悪霊を追い出すには、まずサタンを縛り上げなければならないのです。
28 これは大切なことですから、はっきり言います。人が犯す罪は、どんな罪でも赦してもらえます。たとえ、わたしの父を汚すことばでも。 29 しかし、聖霊を汚す罪だけは、決して赦されません。それは永遠の罪なのです。」 30 こう言われたのは、彼らが、イエスの奇跡を聖霊の力によるものだとは認めず、サタンの力によるのだと言っていたからです。
31 さて、イエスの母と弟たちが、教えを聞く人々でごった返す家に来て、イエスに話があるから出て来るようにと、ことづけました。 32 「お母様と弟さんたちが、お会いしたいと外でお待ちです」と言われて、 33 イエスはこうお答えになりました。「わたしの母や兄弟とは、いったいだれのことですか。」 34 それから、ぐるりと回りを見渡し、「この人たちこそわたしの母であり兄弟です。 35 だれでも、神のお心のままに歩む人が、わたしの兄弟、姉妹、また母なのです」と言われました。

Jesus Heals on the Sabbath
3 Another time Jesus went into the synagogue,(A) and a man with a shriveled hand was there. 2 Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely(B) to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath.(C) 3 Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Stand up in front of everyone.”
4 Then Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent.
5 He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored. 6 Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians(D) how they might kill Jesus.(E)
Crowds Follow Jesus(F)
7 Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the lake, and a large crowd from Galilee followed.(G) 8 When they heard about all he was doing, many people came to him from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, and the regions across the Jordan and around Tyre and Sidon.(H) 9 Because of the crowd he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him, to keep the people from crowding him. 10 For he had healed many,(I) so that those with diseases were pushing forward to touch him.(J) 11 Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.”(K) 12 But he gave them strict orders not to tell others about him.(L)
Jesus Appoints the Twelve(M)
13 Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him.(N) 14 He appointed twelve[a](O) that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach 15 and to have authority to drive out demons.(P) 16 These are the twelve he appointed: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter),(Q) 17 James son of Zebedee and his brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means “sons of thunder”), 18 Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot 19 and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
Jesus Accused by His Family and by Teachers of the Law(R)(S)
20 Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered,(T) so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat.(U) 21 When his family[b] heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”(V)
22 And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem(W) said, “He is possessed by Beelzebul!(X) By the prince of demons he is driving out demons.”(Y)
23 So Jesus called them over to him and began to speak to them in parables:(Z) “How can Satan(AA) drive out Satan? 24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 26 And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come. 27 In fact, no one can enter a strong man’s house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man’s house.(AB) 28 Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, 29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.”(AC)
30 He said this because they were saying, “He has an impure spirit.”
31 Then Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived.(AD) Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. 32 A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, “Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you.”
33 “Who are my mother and my brothers?” he asked.
34 Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! 35 Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.”
