³³ So you shall not pollute the land where you are; for blood ^(A)defiles the land, and no ^[a]atonement can be made for the land, for the blood that is shed on it, except ^(B)by the blood of him who shed it.

⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation, ^51 (A)from the blood of Abel to ^(B)the blood of Zechariah who perished between the altar and the temple. Yes, I say to you, it shall be required of this generation.

³¹ “Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves that ^(A)you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. ^32 (B)Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers’ guilt. ³³ Serpents, ^(C)brood^[a] of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell? ^34 (D)Therefore, indeed, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: ^(E)some of them you will kill and crucify, and ^(F)some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city, ^35 (G)that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, ^(H)from the blood of righteous Abel to ^(I)the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.

²⁴ “Son of man, say to her: ‘You are a land that is ^(A)not ^[a]cleansed or rained on in the day of indignation.’ ^25 (B)The conspiracy of her ^[b]prophets in her midst is like a roaring lion tearing the prey; they ^(C)have devoured ^[c]people; ^(D)they have taken treasure and precious things; they have made many widows in her midst. ^26 (E)Her priests have ^[d]violated My law and ^(F)profaned My holy things; they have not ^(G)distinguished between the holy and unholy, nor have they made known the difference between the unclean and the clean; and they have hidden their eyes from My Sabbaths, so that I am profaned among them. ²⁷ Her ^(H)princes in her midst are like wolves tearing the prey, to shed blood, to destroy ^[e]people, and to get dishonest gain.
