Recounting Israel's Journey

33 These are the stages of the people of Israel, when they went out of the land of Egypt by their companies under the leadership of Moses and Aaron. Moses wrote down their starting places, (A)stage by stage, by command of the Lord, and these are their stages according to their starting places. They (B)set out from Rameses in (C)the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month. On the day after the Passover, the people of Israel went out (D)triumphantly in the sight of all the Egyptians, while the Egyptians were burying all their firstborn, (E)whom the Lord had struck down among them. (F)On their gods also the Lord executed judgments.

So the people of Israel set out from Rameses and camped at (G)Succoth. And they set out from Succoth and camped at (H)Etham, which is on the edge of the wilderness. And they set out from Etham and turned back to (I)Pi-hahiroth, which is east of Baal-zephon, and they camped before Migdol. And they set out from before Hahiroth[a] and (J)passed through the midst of the sea into the wilderness, and they (K)went a three days' journey in the wilderness of Etham and camped at Marah. And they set out from Marah and came to (L)Elim; at Elim there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees, and they camped there. 10 And they set out from Elim and camped by the Red Sea. 11 And they set out from the Red Sea and camped in (M)the wilderness of Sin. 12 And they set out from the wilderness of Sin and camped at Dophkah. 13 And they set out from Dophkah and camped at Alush. 14 And they set out from Alush and camped at (N)Rephidim, where there was no water for the people to drink. 15 And they set out from Rephidim and camped in the (O)wilderness of Sinai. 16 And they set out from the wilderness of Sinai and camped at (P)Kibroth-hattaavah. 17 And they set out from Kibroth-hattaavah and camped at (Q)Hazeroth. 18 And they (R)set out from Hazeroth and camped at Rithmah. 19 And they set out from Rithmah and camped at Rimmon-perez. 20 And they set out from Rimmon-perez and camped at Libnah. 21 And they set out from Libnah and camped at Rissah. 22 And they set out from Rissah and camped at Kehelathah. 23 And they set out from Kehelathah and camped at Mount Shepher. 24 And they set out from Mount Shepher and camped at Haradah. 25 And they set out from Haradah and camped at Makheloth. 26 And they set out from Makheloth and camped at Tahath. 27 And they set out from Tahath and camped at Terah. 28 And they set out from Terah and camped at Mithkah. 29 And they set out from Mithkah and camped at Hashmonah. 30 And they set out from Hashmonah and camped at Moseroth. 31 And they set out from Moseroth and camped at (S)Bene-jaakan. 32 And they set out from Bene-jaakan and camped at (T)Hor-haggidgad. 33 And they set out from Hor-haggidgad and camped at (U)Jotbathah. 34 And they set out from Jotbathah and camped at Abronah. 35 And they set out from Abronah and camped at (V)Ezion-geber. 36 And they set out from Ezion-geber and camped in the (W)wilderness of Zin (that is, Kadesh). 37 And they set out from (X)Kadesh and camped at (Y)Mount Hor, on the edge of the land of Edom.

38 And Aaron the priest went up (Z)Mount Hor at the command of the Lord and died there, in the fortieth year after the people of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, on the first day of the fifth month. 39 And Aaron was (AA)123 years old when he died on Mount Hor.

40 And (AB)the Canaanite, the king of Arad, who lived in the Negeb in the land of Canaan, heard of the coming of the people of Israel.

41 And they set out from Mount Hor and camped at Zalmonah. 42 And they set out from Zalmonah and camped at Punon. 43 And they set out from Punon and camped at (AC)Oboth. 44 And they set out from Oboth and camped at (AD)Iye-abarim, in the territory of Moab. 45 And they set out from Iyim and camped at (AE)Dibon-gad. 46 And they set out from Dibon-gad and camped at Almon-diblathaim. 47 And they set out from Almon-diblathaim (AF)and camped in the mountains of Abarim, before Nebo. 48 And they set out from the mountains of Abarim and camped in (AG)the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho; 49 they camped by the Jordan from Beth-jeshimoth as far as (AH)Abel-shittim in the plains of Moab.

Drive Out the Inhabitants

50 And the Lord spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying, 51 “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, (AI)When you pass over the Jordan into the land of Canaan, 52 then (AJ)you shall drive out (AK)all the inhabitants of the land from before you and destroy all their (AL)figured stones and destroy all their metal images and demolish all their high places. 53 And you shall take possession of the land and settle in it, for I have given the land to you to possess it. 54 (AM)You shall inherit the land by lot according to your clans. (AN)To a large tribe you shall give a large inheritance, and to a small tribe you shall give a small inheritance. Wherever the lot falls for anyone, that shall be his. According to the tribes of your fathers you shall inherit. 55 But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then those of them whom you let remain shall be as (AO)barbs in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they shall trouble you in the land where you dwell. 56 And I will do to you (AP)as I thought to do to them.”

Boundaries of the Land

34 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Command the people of Israel, and say to them, When you enter (AQ)the land of Canaan (AR)(this is the land that shall fall to you for an inheritance, the land of Canaan as defined by its borders), (AS)your south side shall be from the wilderness of Zin alongside Edom, and your southern border shall run from the end of (AT)the Salt Sea on the east. And your border shall turn south of (AU)the ascent of Akrabbim, and cross to Zin, and its limit shall be south of Kadesh-barnea. Then it shall go on to (AV)Hazar-addar, and pass along to Azmon. And the border shall turn (AW)from Azmon to (AX)the Brook of Egypt, and its limit shall be at the sea.

“For the western border, you shall have the Great Sea and its[b] coast. This shall be your western border.

“This shall be your northern border: from the Great Sea you shall draw a line to (AY)Mount Hor. From Mount Hor you shall draw a line (AZ)to Lebo-hamath, and the limit of the border shall be at (BA)Zedad. Then the border shall extend to Ziphron, and its limit shall be at (BB)Hazar-enan. This shall be your northern border.

10 “You shall draw a line for your eastern border from Hazar-enan to Shepham. 11 And the border shall go down from Shepham to (BC)Riblah on the east side of Ain. And the border shall go down and reach to the shoulder of (BD)the Sea of Chinnereth on the east. 12 And the border shall go down to the Jordan, and its limit shall be at (BE)the Salt Sea. This shall be your land as defined by its borders all around.”

13 Moses commanded the people of Israel, saying, (BF)“This is the land that you shall inherit by lot, which the Lord has commanded to give to the nine tribes and to the half-tribe. 14 (BG)For the tribe of the people of Reuben by fathers' houses and the tribe of the people of Gad by their fathers' houses have received their inheritance, and also the half-tribe of Manasseh. 15 The two tribes and the half-tribe have received their inheritance beyond the Jordan east of Jericho, toward the sunrise.”

List of Tribal Chiefs

16 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 17 “These are the names of the men who shall divide the land to you for inheritance: (BH)Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun. 18 You shall take one (BI)chief from every tribe to divide the land for inheritance. 19 These are the names of the men: Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh. 20 Of the tribe of the people of Simeon, Shemuel the son of Ammihud. 21 Of the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad the son of Chislon. 22 Of the tribe of the people of Dan a chief, Bukki the son of Jogli. 23 Of the people of Joseph: of the tribe of the people of Manasseh a chief, Hanniel the son of Ephod. 24 And of the tribe of the people of Ephraim a chief, Kemuel the son of Shiphtan. 25 Of the tribe of the people of Zebulun a chief, Elizaphan the son of Parnach. 26 Of the tribe of the people of Issachar a chief, Paltiel the son of Azzan. 27 And of the tribe of the people of Asher a chief, Ahihud the son of Shelomi. 28 Of the tribe of the people of Naphtali a chief, Pedahel the son of Ammihud.” 29 These are the men whom the Lord commanded to divide the inheritance for the people of Israel in the land of Canaan.

Jesus Foretells Destruction of the Temple

13 (A)And as he came out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher, what wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings!” And Jesus said to him, “Do you see these great buildings? (B)There will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.”

Signs of the End of the Age

And as he sat on (C)the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, (D)Peter and James and John and (E)Andrew asked him (F)privately, “Tell us, (G)when will these things be, and what will be the sign when all these things are about to be accomplished?” And Jesus began to say to them, (H)“See that no one leads you astray. (I)Many will come in my name, saying, (J)‘I am he!’ and they will lead many astray. And when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, (K)do not be alarmed. This (L)must take place, but the end is not yet. For (M)nation will rise against nation, and (N)kingdom against kingdom. There will be (O)earthquakes in various places; there will be (P)famines. These are but the beginning of the birth pains.

(Q)“But (R)be on your guard. For they will deliver you over to councils, and you will be beaten (S)in synagogues, and you will stand before (T)governors and (U)kings for my sake, (V)to bear witness before them. 10 And the gospel must first be proclaimed (W)to all nations. 11 And when they bring you to trial and deliver you over, (X)do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say, but say (Y)whatever is given you in that hour, (Z)for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. 12 (AA)And brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death. 13 (AB)And you will be hated by all for my name's sake. (AC)But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

The Abomination of Desolation

14 “But when you see (AD)the abomination of desolation standing where he ought not to be ((AE)let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 15 (AF)Let the one who is on (AG)the housetop not go down, nor enter his house, to take anything out, 16 and let the one who is in the field not turn back to take his cloak. 17 And (AH)alas for women who are pregnant and for those who are nursing infants in those days! 18 Pray that it may not happen in winter. 19 For in those days there will be (AI)such (AJ)tribulation as has not been (AK)from the beginning of the creation that (AL)God created until now, and never will be. 20 And if the Lord had not cut short the days, no human being would be saved. But for (AM)the sake of the elect, whom (AN)he chose, he shortened the days. 21 And (AO)then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘Look, there he is!’ do not believe it. 22 (AP)For false christs and false prophets will arise and (AQ)perform signs and wonders, (AR)to lead astray, if possible, (AS)the elect. 23 But (AT)be on guard; (AU)I have told you all things beforehand.

The Coming of the Son of Man

24 “But in those days, after (AV)that tribulation, (AW)the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, 25 and (AX)the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. 26 And then they will see (AY)the Son of Man coming in clouds (AZ)with great power and glory. 27 And then (BA)he will send out the angels and (BB)gather (BC)his elect from (BD)the four winds, from (BE)the ends of the earth (BF)to the ends of heaven.

The Widow's Offering

21 (A)Jesus[a] looked up and saw the rich (B)putting their gifts into (C)the offering box, and he saw a poor widow put in two (D)small copper coins.[b] And he said, “Truly, I tell you, (E)this poor widow has put in more than all of them. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her (F)poverty put in all (G)she had to live on.”

Jesus Foretells Destruction of the Temple

(H)And while some were speaking of the temple, how it was adorned with noble stones and offerings, he said, “As for these things that you see, (I)the days will come when there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.” And they asked him, “Teacher, (J)when will these things be, and what will be the sign when these things are about to take place?” And he said, (K)“See that you are not led astray. For (L)many will come in my name, saying, (M)‘I am he!’ and, (N)‘The time is at hand!’ Do not go after them. And when you hear of wars and tumults, do not be (O)terrified, for these things (P)must first take place, but the end will not be at once.”

Jesus Foretells Wars and Persecution

10 Then he said to them, (Q)“Nation will rise against nation, and (R)kingdom against kingdom. 11 There will be great (S)earthquakes, and in various places (T)famines and pestilences. And there will be (U)terrors and great (V)signs from heaven. 12 But before all this (W)they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to (X)the synagogues and (Y)prisons, and you (Z)will be brought before (AA)kings and (AB)governors for my name's sake. 13 (AC)This will be your opportunity to bear witness. 14 Settle it therefore in your minds (AD)not to meditate beforehand how to answer, 15 for (AE)I will give you a mouth and (AF)wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or (AG)contradict. 16 You will be delivered up (AH)even by parents and brothers[c] and relatives and friends, and some of you they will put to death. 17 (AI)You will be hated by all for my name's sake. 18 But (AJ)not a hair of your head will perish. 19 By your (AK)endurance you will gain your lives.

Jesus Foretells Destruction of Jerusalem

20 “But (AL)when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that (AM)its desolation has come near. 21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, and let those who are inside the city depart, and let not those who are out in the country enter it, 22 for these are (AN)days of (AO)vengeance, to fulfill (AP)all that is written. 23 (AQ)Alas for women who are pregnant and for those who are nursing infants in those days! For there will be great distress upon the earth and (AR)wrath against this people. 24 They will fall by the edge of the sword and (AS)be led captive among all nations, and (AT)Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles, (AU)until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

The Coming of the Son of Man

25 “And (AV)there will be signs in sun and moon (AW)and stars, and on the earth (AX)distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves, 26 people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For (AY)the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27 And then they will see (AZ)the Son of Man coming in a cloud (BA)with power and great glory. 28 Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and (BB)raise your heads, because (BC)your redemption is drawing near.”
