⁵ And they said, “If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession. Do not take us across the Jordan.”

² And when the king saw Queen Esther standing in the court, ^(A)she won favor in his sight, ^(B)and he held out to Esther the golden scepter that was in his hand. Then Esther approached and touched the tip of the scepter.

²² And Joab fell on his face to the ground and paid homage ^(A)and blessed the king. And Joab said, “Today your servant knows that I have found favor in your sight, my lord the king, in that the king has granted the request of his servant.”

³ But David vowed again, saying, “Your father knows well that ^(A)I have found favor in your eyes, and he thinks, ‘Do not let Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved.’ But truly, ^(B)as the Lord lives and ^(C)as your soul lives, there is but a step between me and death.”

¹⁰ Then ^(A)she fell on her face, bowing to the ground, and said to him, “Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should ^(B)take notice of me, since I am a foreigner?”

⁷ And Joshua said, “Alas, O Lord God, ^(A)why have you brought this people over the Jordan at all, to give us into the hands of the Amorites, to destroy us? Would that we had been content to dwell beyond the Jordan!

²⁵ Please let me go over and see ^(A)the good land beyond the Jordan, that good hill country and ^(B)Lebanon.’ ²⁶ But ^(C)the Lord was angry with me because of you and would not listen to me. And the Lord said to me, ^(D)‘Enough from you; do not speak to me of this matter again.

³⁷ Even with me ^(A)the Lord was angry on your account and said, ‘You also shall not go in there.

¹⁹ Behold, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have shown me great kindness in saving my life. But I cannot escape to the hills, lest the disaster overtake me and I die.
