⁸ They killed the kings of Midian with the rest of those who were killed—^(A)Evi, Rekem, ^(B)Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian. ^(C)Balaam the son of Beor they also killed with the sword.

^21 (A)all the cities of the plain and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, ^(B)whom Moses had struck ^(C)with the princes of Midian: Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, who were princes of Sihon dwelling in the country. ²² The children of Israel also killed with the sword ^(D)Balaam the son of Beor, the ^[a]soothsayer, among those who were killed by them.

¹⁵ And the name of the Midianite woman who was killed was Cozbi the daughter of ^(A)Zur; he was head of the people of a father’s house in Midian.

¹⁴ But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of ^(A)Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, ^(B)to eat things sacrificed to idols, ^(C)and to commit sexual immorality.

¹¹ Woe to them! For they have gone in the way ^(A)of Cain, ^(B)have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished ^(C)in the rebellion of Korah.

^20 (A)Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and ^(B)those who worshiped his image. ^(C)These two were cast alive into the lake of fire ^(D)burning with brimstone.

¹⁵ They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of ^(A)Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

⁹ But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
