²³ everything that can endure fire, you shall put through the fire, and it shall be clean; and it shall be purified ^(A)with the water of purification. But all that cannot endure fire you shall put through water.

⁹ Then a man who is clean shall gather up ^(A)the ashes of the heifer, and store them outside the camp in a clean place; and they shall be kept for the congregation of the children of Israel ^(B)for the water of ^[a]purification; it is for purifying from sin.

¹⁷ ‘And for an unclean person they shall take some of the ^(A)ashes of the heifer burnt for purification from sin, and ^[a]running water shall be put on them in a vessel.

¹³ each one’s work will become clear; for the Day ^(A)will declare it, because ^(B)it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is.

^11 (A)I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. ^(B)He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit ^[a]and fire.

¹⁸ I counsel you ^(A)to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and ^(B)white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.

Suffering for God’s Glory

¹² Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you;

^21 (A)There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism ^(B)(not the removal of the filth of the flesh, ^(C)but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

⁷ that ^(A)the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though ^(B)it is tested by fire, ^(C)may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,
