⁹ And ^(A)those who died in the plague were twenty-four thousand.

^8 (A)Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as ^(B)some of them did, and ^(C)in one day twenty-three thousand fell;

³ Your eyes have seen what the Lord did at ^(A)Baal Peor; for the Lord your God has destroyed from among you all the men who followed Baal of Peor. ⁴ But you who held fast to the Lord your God are alive today, every one of you.

⁴ Then the Lord said to Moses, ^(A)“Take all the leaders of the people and hang the offenders before the Lord, out in the sun, ^(B)that the fierce anger of the Lord may turn away from Israel.”

⁵ So Moses said to ^(C)the judges of Israel, ^(D)“Every one of you kill his men who were joined to Baal of Peor.”

¹⁶ Look, ^(A)these women caused the children of Israel, through the ^(B)counsel of Balaam, to trespass against the Lord in the incident of Peor, and ^(C)there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord.

⁴⁹ Now those who died in the plague were fourteen thousand seven hundred, besides those who died in the Korah incident. ⁵⁰ So Aaron returned to Moses at the door of the tabernacle of meeting, for the plague had stopped.

³⁷ those very men who brought the evil report about the land, ^(A)died by the plague before the Lord.
