⁹ Nevertheless, ^(A)those who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand.

^8 (A)We must not indulge in sexual immorality ^(B)as some of them did, and ^(C)twenty-three thousand fell in a single day.

³ Your eyes have seen what the Lord did ^(A)at Baal-peor, for the Lord your God destroyed from among you all the men who followed the Baal of Peor. ⁴ But you who held fast to the Lord your God are all alive today.

⁴ And the Lord said to Moses, ^(A)“Take all the chiefs of the people and ^(B)hang^[a] them in the sun before the Lord, ^(C)that the fierce anger of the Lord may turn away from Israel.” ⁵ And Moses said to ^(D)the judges of Israel, ^(E)“Each of you kill those of his men who have yoked themselves to Baal of Peor.”

¹⁶ Behold, ^(A)these, ^(B)on Balaam's advice, caused the people of Israel to act treacherously against the Lord in the incident of ^(C)Peor, and so ^(D)the plague came among the congregation of the Lord.

⁴⁹ Now those who died in the plague were 14,700, ^(A)besides those who died in the affair of Korah. ⁵⁰ And Aaron returned to Moses at the entrance of the tent of meeting, when the plague was stopped.

³⁷ the men who brought up a bad report of the land—^(A)died by plague before the Lord.
