Balaam’s First Oracle

⁴¹ On the next day Balak took Balaam and brought him up to Bamoth-baal, and from there he could see part of the people of Israel.^[a](A)

Balaam’s Second Oracle

¹³ So Balak said to him, “Come with me to another place from which you may see them; you shall see only part of them and shall not see them all; then curse them for me from there.”

³⁵ And I will bring to an end in Moab, says the Lord, those who offer sacrifice at a high place and make offerings to their gods.^(A)

¹⁵ and had appointed his own priests for the high places and for the goat-demons and for the calves that he had made.^(A)

² “You must demolish completely all the places where the nations whom you are about to dispossess served their gods, on the mountain heights, on the hills, and under every leafy tree.

² These invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods.^{(A) 3} Thus Israel yoked itself to the Baal of Peor, and the Lord’s anger was kindled against Israel.^(B)
