³⁷ Balak said to Balaam, “Did I not send to summon you? Why did you not come to me? Am I not able to honor you?”^(A)

¹¹ Now be off with you! Go home! I said, ‘I will reward you richly,’ but the Lord has denied you any reward.”^(A)

⁴⁴ How can you believe when you accept glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the one who alone is God?^[a](A)

⁶ And the devil^[a] said to him, “To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been given over to me, and I give it to anyone I please.^(A)

⁸ Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory, ⁹ and he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.”

¹⁶ They came to Balaam and said to him, “Thus says Balak son of Zippor: Do not let anything hinder you from coming to me, ¹⁷ for I will surely do you great honor, and whatever you say to me I will do; come, curse this people for me.”^(A)
