³⁶ When Balak^(A) heard that Balaam was coming, he went out to meet him at the Moabite town on the Arnon^(B) border, at the edge of his territory.

¹⁵ The brothers and sisters^(A) there had heard that we were coming, and they traveled as far as the Forum of Appius and the Three Taverns to meet us. At the sight of these people Paul thanked God and was encouraged.

⁸ So at that time we took from these two kings of the Amorites^(A) the territory east of the Jordan, from the Arnon Gorge as far as Mount Hermon.^(B)

Defeat of Sihon King of Heshbon

²⁴ “Set out now and cross the Arnon Gorge.^(A) See, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite,^(B) king of Heshbon, and his country. Begin to take possession of it and engage^(C) him in battle.

¹³ They set out from there and camped alongside the Arnon^(A), which is in the wilderness extending into Amorite territory. The Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.^{(B) 14} That is why the Book of the Wars^(C) of the Lord says:

⁷ So Moses went out to meet his father-in-law and bowed down^(A) and kissed^(B) him. They greeted each other and then went into the tent.
