The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan(A) works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders(B) that serve the lie, 10 and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing.(C) They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.(D) 11 For this reason God sends them(E) a powerful delusion(F) so that they will believe the lie(G) 12 and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.(H)

    now I have brought it to pass,
that you have turned fortified cities
    into piles of stone.(C)
27 Their people, drained of power,
    are dismayed and put to shame.
They are like plants in the field,
    like tender green shoots,
like grass(D) sprouting on the roof,(E)
    scorched[a] before it grows up.

28 “But I know where you are
    and when you come and go(F)
    and how you rage(G) against me.
29 Because you rage against me
    and because your insolence(H) has reached my ears,
I will put my hook(I) in your nose(J)
    and my bit in your mouth,
and I will make you return
