⁸ “Take the staff,^(A) and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water.^(B) You will bring water out of the rock for the community so they and their livestock can drink.”

⁹ So Moses took the staff^(C) from the Lord’s presence,^(D) just as he commanded him. ¹⁰ He and Aaron gathered the assembly together^(E) in front of the rock and Moses said to them, “Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?”^{(F) 11} Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water^(G) gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank.

⁸ On that day living water^(A) will flow^(B) out from Jerusalem, half of it east^(C) to the Dead Sea and half of it west to the Mediterranean Sea, in summer and in winter.^(D)

¹⁶ Then the survivors^(A) from all the nations that have attacked Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship^(B) the King,^(C) the Lord Almighty, and to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles.^{(D) 17} If any of the peoples of the earth do not go up to Jerusalem to worship^(E) the King, the Lord Almighty, they will have no rain.^{(F) 18} If the Egyptian people do not go up and take part, they will have no rain. The Lord^[a] will bring on them the plague^(G) he inflicts on the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles.^{(H) 19} This will be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles.^(I)
