²⁴ “Aaron will be gathered to his people.^(A) He will not enter the land I give the Israelites, because both of you rebelled against my command^(B) at the waters of Meribah.^(C)

⁸ Then Abraham breathed his last and died at a good old age,^(A) an old man and full of years; and he was gathered to his people.^(B)

⁵⁰ There on the mountain that you have climbed you will die^(A) and be gathered to your people, just as your brother Aaron died^(B) on Mount Hor^(C) and was gathered to his people.

² “Take vengeance on the Midianites^(A) for the Israelites. After that, you will be gathered to your people.^(B)”

¹³ After you have seen it, you too will be gathered to your people,^(A) as your brother Aaron^(B) was,

²⁸ Now I will gather you to your ancestors,^(A) and you will be buried in peace. Your eyes will not see all the disaster I am going to bring on this place and on those who live here.’”^(B)

So they took her answer back to the king.

¹⁰ After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel.^(A)

¹⁰ He and Aaron gathered the assembly together^(A) in front of the rock and Moses said to them, “Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?”^{(B) 11} Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water^(C) gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank.

¹² But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy^(D) in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.”^(E)

²⁷ All their service, whether carrying or doing other work, is to be done under the direction of Aaron and his sons.^(A) You shall assign to them as their responsibility^(B) all they are to carry.
