¹⁴ While Moses was at Kadesh, he sent ambassadors to the king of Edom with this message:

20 In the first month of the year,^[a] the whole community of Israel arrived in the wilderness of Zin and camped at Kadesh. While they were there, Miriam died and was buried.

²⁸ The southern border of Gad runs from Tamar to the waters of Meribah at Kadesh^[a] and then follows the Brook of Egypt to the Mediterranean.^[b]

³⁷ They left Kadesh and camped at Mount Hor, at the border of Edom. ³⁸ While they were at the foot of Mount Hor, Aaron the priest was directed by the Lord to go up the mountain, and there he died. This happened in midsummer, on the first day of the fifth month^[a] of the fortieth year after Israel’s departure from Egypt.
