¹⁰ He and Aaron gathered the assembly together^(A) in front of the rock and Moses said to them, “Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?”^(B)

² We all stumble^(A) in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say^(B) is perfect,^(C) able to keep their whole body in check.^(D)

²⁶ “In your anger do not sin”^[a]:^(A) Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,

¹⁷ Therefore I glory in Christ Jesus^(A) in my service to God.^{(B) 18} I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in leading the Gentiles^(C) to obey God^(D) by what I have said and done— ¹⁹ by the power of signs and wonders,^(E) through the power of the Spirit of God.^(F) So from Jerusalem^(G) all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ.^(H)

³ Then Paul said to him, “God will strike you, you whitewashed wall!^(A) You sit there to judge me according to the law, yet you yourself violate the law by commanding that I be struck!”^(B)

⁴ Those who were standing near Paul said, “How dare you insult God’s high priest!”

⁵ Paul replied, “Brothers, I did not realize that he was the high priest; for it is written: ‘Do not speak evil about the ruler of your people.’^[a]”^(C)

⁹ He listened to Paul as he was speaking. Paul looked directly at him, saw that he had faith to be healed^{(A) 10} and called out, “Stand up on your feet!”^(B) At that, the man jumped up and began to walk.^(C)

¹¹ When the crowd saw what Paul had done, they shouted in the Lycaonian language, “The gods have come down to us in human form!”^{(D) 12} Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul they called Hermes because he was the chief speaker.^{(E) 13} The priest of Zeus, whose temple was just outside the city, brought bulls and wreaths to the city gates because he and the crowd wanted to offer sacrifices to them.

¹⁴ But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of this, they tore their clothes^(F) and rushed out into the crowd, shouting: ¹⁵ “Friends, why are you doing this? We too are only human,^(G) like you. We are bringing you good news,^(H) telling you to turn from these worthless things^(I) to the living God,^(J) who made the heavens and the earth^(K) and the sea and everything in them.^(L)

¹² When Peter saw this, he said to them: “Fellow Israelites, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? ¹³ The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob,^(A) the God of our fathers,^(B) has glorified his servant Jesus. You handed him over^(C) to be killed, and you disowned him before Pilate,^(D) though he had decided to let him go.^{(E) 14} You disowned the Holy^(F) and Righteous One^(G) and asked that a murderer be released to you.^{(H) 15} You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead.^(I) We are witnesses^(J) of this. ¹⁶ By faith in the name of Jesus,^(K) this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can all see.

⁵⁴ When the disciples James and John^(A) saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them^[a]?”^{(B) 55} But Jesus turned and rebuked them.
