⁴⁹ But 14,700 people died from the plague, in addition to those who had died because of Korah.^(A)

⁹ but those who died in the plague^(A) numbered 24,000.^(B)

²⁵ See to it that you do not refuse^(A) him who speaks.^(B) If they did not escape when they refused him who warned^(C) them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven?^(D)

²⁸ Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.^{(A) 29} How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God^(B) underfoot,^(C) who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant^(D) that sanctified them,^(E) and who has insulted the Spirit^(F) of grace?^(G)

Warning to Pay Attention

2 We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.^{(A) 2} For since the message spoken^(B) through angels^(C) was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment,^{(D) 3} how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation?^(E) This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord,^(F) was confirmed to us by those who heard him.^(G)

¹⁴ So the Lord sent a plague on Israel, and seventy thousand men of Israel fell dead.^(A)

³² and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them^(A) and their households, and all those associated with Korah, together with their possessions. ³³ They went down alive into the realm of the dead,^(B) with everything they owned; the earth closed over them, and they perished and were gone from the community. ³⁴ At their cries, all the Israelites around them fled, shouting, “The earth is going to swallow us too!”

³⁵ And fire came out from the Lord^(C) and consumed^(D) the 250 men who were offering the incense.
