    and their daughters to the demons;(L)
38 they poured out innocent blood,
    the blood of their sons and daughters,
whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan,
    and the land was polluted with blood.(M)
39 Thus they became unclean by their acts
    and prostituted themselves in their doings.(N)

40 Then the anger of the Lord was kindled against his people,
    and he abhorred his heritage;(O)
41 he gave them into the hand of the nations,
    so that those who hated them ruled over them.(P)
42 Their enemies oppressed them,
    and they were brought into subjection under their power.
43 Many times he delivered them,
    but they were rebellious in their purposes
    and were brought low through their iniquity.(Q)
44 Nevertheless, he regarded their distress
    when he heard their cry.(R)
45 For their sake he remembered his covenant
    and showed compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love.(S)
46 He caused them to be pitied
    by all who held them captive.(T)

47 Save us, O Lord our God,
    and gather us from among the nations,
that we may give thanks to your holy name
    and glory in your praise.(U)

48 Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
    from everlasting to everlasting.
And let all the people say, “Amen.”

Revolt of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram

16 Now Korah son of Izhar son of Kohath son of Levi, along with Dathan and Abiram sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth son[a] of Reuben, took(A) two hundred fifty Israelite men, leaders of the congregation, chosen from the assembly, well-known men, and they confronted Moses.(B) They assembled against Moses and against Aaron and said to them, “You have gone too far! All the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the Lord is among them. So why then do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the Lord?”(C) When Moses heard it, he fell on his face.(D) Then he spoke to Korah and all his congregation, saying, “In the morning the Lord will make known who is his and who is holy and who will be allowed to approach him; the one whom he will choose he will allow to approach him.(E) Do this: take censers, Korah and all your[b] congregation, and tomorrow put fire in them, and lay incense on them before the Lord, and the man whom the Lord chooses shall be the holy one. You Levites have gone too far!”
