²⁸ Now tell them this: ‘As surely as I live, declares the Lord, I will do to you the very things I heard you say.

²¹ But as surely as I live, and as surely as the earth is filled with the Lord’s glory,

¹⁷ And who made God angry for forty years? Wasn’t it the people who sinned, whose corpses lay in the wilderness?

²³ They will never even see the land I swore to give their ancestors. None of those who have treated me with contempt will ever see it.

² Their voices rose in a great chorus of protest against Moses and Aaron. “If only we had died in Egypt, or even here in the wilderness!” they complained.

⁶⁴ Not one person on this list had been among those listed in the previous registration taken by Moses and Aaron in the wilderness of Sinai. ⁶⁵ For the Lord had said of them, “They will all die in the wilderness.” Not one of them survived except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

³⁵ ‘Not one of you from this wicked generation will live to see the good land I swore to give your ancestors,

¹¹ ‘Of all those I rescued from Egypt, no one who is twenty years old or older will ever see the land I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, for they have not obeyed me wholeheartedly.
