²³ When they reached the Valley of Eshkol,^[a](A) they cut off a branch bearing a single cluster of grapes. Two of them carried it on a pole between them, along with some pomegranates^(B) and figs.^(C)

⁹ After they went up to the Valley of Eshkol^(A) and viewed the land, they discouraged the Israelites from entering the land the Lord had given them.

²⁴ That place was called the Valley of Eshkol because of the cluster of grapes the Israelites cut off there.

²⁴ They left and went up into the hill country, and came to the Valley of Eshkol^(A) and explored it. ²⁵ Taking with them some of the fruit of the land, they brought it down to us and reported,^(B) “It is a good land^(C) that the Lord our God is giving us.”^(D)

⁴ Some time later, he fell in love^(A) with a woman in the Valley of Sorek whose name was Delilah.^(B)
