² So they said, “Has the Lord indeed spoken only through ^(A)Moses? ^(B)Has He not spoken through us also?” And the Lord ^(C)heard it.

^12 (A)Then you shall know that I am the Lord. I have ^(B)heard all your ^(C)blasphemies which you have spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, ‘They are desolate; they are given to us to consume.’ ¹³ Thus ^(D)with your mouth you have ^[a]boasted against Me and multiplied your ^(E)words against Me; I have heard them.”

^3 (A)They gathered together against Moses and Aaron, and said to them, “You ^[a]take too much upon yourselves, for ^(B)all the congregation is holy, every one of them, ^(C)and the Lord is among them. Why then do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the Lord?”

⁴ It may be that the Lord your God will hear the words of the Rabshakeh, whom his master the king of Assyria has sent to ^(A)reproach the living God, and will rebuke the words which the Lord your God has heard. Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.’ ”

The People Complain

11 Now ^(A)when the people complained, it displeased the Lord; ^(B)for the Lord heard it, and His anger was aroused. So the ^(C)fire of the Lord burned among them, and consumed some in the outskirts of the camp.

Submit to God, Resist the Devil

⁵ Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, ^(A)all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for
