²⁸ Joshua son of Nun,^(A) who had been Moses’ aide^(B) since youth, spoke up and said, “Moses, my lord, stop them!”^(C)

⁴⁹ “Master,”^(A) said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us.”

⁵⁰ “Do not stop him,” Jesus said, “for whoever is not against you is for you.”^(B)

Whoever Is Not Against Us Is for Us^(A)

³⁸ “Teacher,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.”^(B)

³⁹ “Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “For no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, ⁴⁰ for whoever is not against us is for us.^(C)

²⁶ They came to John and said to him, “Rabbi,^(A) that man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan—the one you testified^(B) about—look, he is baptizing, and everyone is going to him.”

Joshua Installed as Leader

1 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord,^(A) the Lord said to Joshua^(B) son of Nun, Moses’ aide:

¹¹ The Lord would speak to Moses face to face,^(A) as one speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua^(B) son of Nun did not leave the tent.

⁹ Moses said to Joshua,^(A) “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff^(B) of God in my hands.”
