²⁵ Then the Lord came down in the cloud^(A) and spoke with him,^(B) and he took some of the power of the Spirit^(C) that was on him and put it on the seventy elders.^(D) When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied^(E)—but did not do so again.

¹⁷ I will come down and speak with you^(A) there, and I will take some of the power of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them.^(B) They will share the burden of the people with you so that you will not have to carry it alone.^(C)

The Day of the Lord

¹⁰ When he and his servant arrived at Gibeah, a procession of prophets met him; the Spirit^(A) of God came powerfully upon him, and he joined in their prophesying.^(B)

⁵ Then the Lord came down in a pillar of cloud;^(A) he stood at the entrance to the tent and summoned Aaron and Miriam. When the two of them stepped forward,

²¹ For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God^(A) as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.^(B)

Intelligibility in Worship

14 Follow the way of love^(A) and eagerly desire^(B) gifts of the Spirit,^(C) especially prophecy.^{(D) 2} For anyone who speaks in a tongue^[a](E) does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them;^(F) they utter mysteries^(G) by the Spirit. ³ But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening,^(H) encouraging^(I) and comfort.

¹⁵ The company^(A) of the prophets from Jericho, who were watching, said, “The spirit^(B) of Elijah is resting on Elisha.” And they went to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.
