The People Complain

11 Now ^(A)when the people complained, it displeased the Lord; ^(B)for the Lord heard it, and His anger was aroused. So the ^(C)fire of the Lord burned among them, and consumed some in the outskirts of the camp.

¹² So Elijah answered and said to them, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men.” And the fire of God came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.

⁵ And the people ^(A)spoke against God and against Moses: “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and our soul ^[a]loathes this worthless bread.”

³⁵ And ^(A)a fire came out from the Lord and consumed the two hundred and fifty men who were offering incense.

²² “Also at ^(A)Taberah and ^(B)Massah and ^(C)Kibroth Hattaavah you ^[a]provoked the Lord to wrath.

² So ^(A)fire went out from the Lord and devoured them, and they died before the Lord.

⁹ Then Moses spoke to Aaron, “Say to all the congregation of the children of Israel, ^(A)‘Come near before the Lord, for He has heard your complaints.’ ”

Apostates Predicted

¹⁶ These are grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts; and they ^(A)mouth great swelling words, ^(B)flattering people to gain advantage.

¹⁰ nor complain, as ^(A)some of them also complained, and ^(B)were destroyed by ^(C)the destroyer.
