Fire From the Lord

11 Now the people complained^(A) about their hardships in the hearing of the Lord,^(B) and when he heard them his anger was aroused.^(C) Then fire from the Lord burned among them^(D) and consumed^(E) some of the outskirts of the camp.

¹² “If I am a man of God,” Elijah replied, “may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men!” Then the fire of God fell from heaven and consumed him and his fifty men.

⁵ they spoke against God^(A) and against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt^(B) to die in the wilderness?^(C) There is no bread! There is no water!^(D) And we detest this miserable food!”^(E)

³⁵ And fire came out from the Lord^(A) and consumed^(B) the 250 men who were offering the incense.

²² You also made the Lord angry^(A) at Taberah,^(B) at Massah^(C) and at Kibroth Hattaavah.^(D)

² So fire came out^(A) from the presence of the Lord and consumed them,^(B) and they died before the Lord.^(C)

⁹ Then Moses told Aaron, “Say to the entire Israelite community, ‘Come before the Lord, for he has heard your grumbling.’”

¹⁶ These people are grumblers^(A) and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires;^(B) they boast^(C) about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.

¹⁰ And do not grumble, as some of them did^(A)—and were killed^(B) by the destroying angel.^(C)
