The People Complain

11 And ^(A)the people complained in the hearing of the Lord about their misfortunes, and when the Lord heard it, ^(B)his anger was kindled, and ^(C)the fire of the Lord burned among them and consumed some outlying parts of the camp.

¹² But Elijah answered them, “If I am a man of God, ^(A)let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty.” Then the fire of God came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.

⁵ And the people ^(A)spoke against God and against Moses, ^(B)“Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and ^(C)we loathe this worthless food.”

³⁵ And ^(A)fire came out from the Lord and consumed ^(B)the 250 men offering the incense.

²² “At ^(A)Taberah also, and at ^(B)Massah and at ^(C)Kibroth-hattaavah you provoked the Lord to wrath.

² And fire ^(A)came out from before the Lord and consumed them, and they died before the Lord.

⁹ Then Moses ^(A)said to Aaron, “Say to the whole congregation of the people of Israel, ^(B)‘Come near before the Lord, for he has heard your grumbling.’”

¹⁶ These are grumblers, malcontents, ^(A)following their own sinful desires; ^(B)they are loud-mouthed boasters, ^(C)showing favoritism to gain advantage.

¹⁰ nor grumble, ^(A)as some of them did and ^(B)were destroyed by ^(C)the Destroyer.

³³ For ^(A)a burning place^[a] has long been prepared; indeed, for the king it is made ready, ^(B)its pyre made deep and wide, with fire and wood in abundance; ^(C)the breath of the Lord, like a stream of sulfur, kindles it.
