²⁶ Remove Aaron’s garments^(A) and put them on his son Eleazar, for Aaron will be gathered to his people;^(B) he will die there.”

²⁴ “Aaron will be gathered to his people.^(A) He will not enter the land I give the Israelites, because both of you rebelled against my command^(B) at the waters of Meribah.^(C)

²³ Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; ²⁴ but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood.^(A)

Jesus Like Melchizedek

¹¹ If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood—and indeed the law given to the people^(A) established that priesthood—why was there still need for another priest to come,^(B) one in the order of Melchizedek,^(C) not in the order of Aaron?

²¹ I will clothe him with your robe and fasten your sash^(A) around him and hand your authority^(B) over to him. He will be a father to those who live in Jerusalem and to the people of Judah. ²² I will place on his shoulder^(C) the key^(D) to the house of David;^(E) what he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.^(F)

²⁹ “Aaron’s sacred garments^(A) will belong to his descendants so that they can be anointed and ordained in them.^{(B) 30} The son^(C) who succeeds him as priest and comes to the tent of meeting to minister in the Holy Place is to wear them seven days.
