Miryam et Aaron critiquent Moïse
12 Moïse avait épousé une femme koushite. Miryam et Aaron se mirent à le critiquer à cause de cela. 2 Et ils dirent : Est-ce seulement par l’intermédiaire de Moïse que l’Eternel a parlé ? N’est-ce pas aussi par notre intermédiaire[a] ?
L’Eternel entendit cela. 3 Or, Moïse était un homme très humble, plus que tout autre homme sur la terre.
4 Alors l’Eternel ordonna soudainement à Moïse, à Aaron et à Miryam : Rendez-vous tous les trois à la tente de la Rencontre !
Ils y allèrent. 5 L’Eternel descendit dans la colonne de nuée et se tint à l’entrée de la tente. Il appela Aaron et Miryam et tous deux s’avancèrent. 6 Il dit :
Ecoutez bien ce que j’ai à vous dire !
S’il se trouve parmi vous ╵un prophète de l’Eternel,
c’est dans une vision ╵qu’à lui je me révélerai,
ou dans un rêve ╵que je lui parlerai.
7 Mais il en va différemment ╵avec mon serviteur Moïse,
qui est fidèle ╵dans toute ma maison[b].
8 Car c’est de vive voix ╵que je lui parle,
de façon claire ╵et non dans un langage énigmatique,
et il voit l’Eternel ╵de manière visible.
Comment donc n’avez-vous pas craint
de critiquer ╵mon serviteur Moïse ?
9 L’Eternel se mit en colère contre eux, et il se retira. 10 A peine la nuée avait-elle quitté la tente, que Miryam se trouva couverte d’une lèpre blanche comme la neige. Quand Aaron se tourna vers Miryam, il vit qu’elle était lépreuse. 11 Alors il dit à Moïse : De grâce, mon seigneur, ne nous tiens pas rigueur du péché que nous avons commis dans un moment de folie ! 12 Ah ! que notre sœur ne soit pas comme l’enfant mort-né dont la moitié du corps se trouve déjà en état de putréfaction au moment de sa naissance.
13 Moïse implora l’Eternel : O Dieu, je t’en prie, guéris-la !
14 Mais l’Eternel lui répondit : Si son père lui avait craché au visage, n’en porterait-elle pas la honte pendant sept jours ? Qu’elle soit exclue du camp pendant sept jours, après quoi elle sera réadmise parmi vous.
15 Miryam fut donc exclue du camp pour sept jours. Et le peuple ne leva le camp que lorsqu’elle y eut été réintégrée. 16 Après cela, ils quittèrent Hatséroth et campèrent dans le désert de Parân.

12 Marie et Aaron parlèrent contre Moïse au sujet de la femme éthiopienne qu'il avait prise, car il avait pris une femme éthiopienne.
2 Ils dirent: Est-ce seulement par Moïse que l'Éternel parle? N'est-ce pas aussi par nous qu'il parle?
3 Et l'Éternel l'entendit. Or, Moïse était un homme fort patient, plus qu'aucun homme sur la face de la terre.
4 Soudain l'Éternel dit à Moïse, à Aaron et à Marie: Allez, vous trois, à la tente d'assignation. Et ils y allèrent tous les trois.
5 L'Éternel descendit dans la colonne de nuée, et il se tint à l'entrée de la tente. Il appela Aaron et Marie, qui s'avancèrent tous les deux.
6 Et il dit: Écoutez bien mes paroles! Lorsqu'il y aura parmi vous un prophète, c'est dans une vision que moi, l'Éternel, je me révélerai à lui, c'est dans un songe que je lui parlerai.
7 Il n'en est pas ainsi de mon serviteur Moïse. Il est fidèle dans toute ma maison.
8 Je lui parle bouche à bouche, je me révèle à lui sans énigmes, et il voit une représentation de l'Éternel. Pourquoi donc n'avez-vous pas craint de parler contre mon serviteur, contre Moïse?
9 La colère de l'Éternel s'enflamma contre eux. Et il s'en alla.
10 La nuée se retira de dessus la tente. Et voici, Marie était frappée d'une lèpre, blanche comme la neige. Aaron se tourna vers Marie; et voici, elle avait la lèpre.
11 Alors Aaron dit à Moïse: De grâce, mon seigneur, ne nous fais pas porter la peine du péché que nous avons commis en insensés, et dont nous nous sommes rendus coupables!
12 Oh! qu'elle ne soit pas comme l'enfant mort-né, dont la chair est à moitié consumée quand il sort du sein de sa mère!
13 Moïse cria à l'Éternel, en disant: O Dieu, je te prie, guéris-la!
14 Et l'Éternel dit à Moïse: Si son père lui avait craché au visage, ne serait-elle pas pendant sept jours un objet de honte? Qu'elle soit enfermée sept jours en dehors du camp; après quoi, elle y sera reçue.
15 Marie fut enfermée sept jours en dehors du camp; et le peuple ne partit point, jusqu'à ce que Marie y fut rentrée.
16 Après cela, le peuple partit de Hatséroth, et il campa dans le désert de Paran.

12 Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married; for he had married a Cushite woman. 2 They said, “Has Yahweh indeed spoken only with Moses? Hasn’t he spoken also with us?” And Yahweh heard it.
3 Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all the men who were on the surface of the earth. 4 Yahweh spoke suddenly to Moses, to Aaron, and to Miriam, “You three come out to the Tent of Meeting!”
The three of them came out. 5 Yahweh came down in a pillar of cloud, and stood at the door of the Tent, and called Aaron and Miriam; and they both came forward. 6 He said, “Now hear my words. If there is a prophet among you, I, Yahweh, will make myself known to him in a vision. I will speak with him in a dream. 7 My servant Moses is not so. He is faithful in all my house. 8 With him, I will speak mouth to mouth, even plainly, and not in riddles; and he shall see Yahweh’s form. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant, against Moses?” 9 Yahweh’s anger burned against them; and he departed.
10 The cloud departed from over the Tent; and behold, Miriam was leprous, as white as snow. Aaron looked at Miriam, and behold, she was leprous.
11 Aaron said to Moses, “Oh, my lord, please don’t count this sin against us, in which we have done foolishly, and in which we have sinned. 12 Let her not, I pray, be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he comes out of his mother’s womb.”
13 Moses cried to Yahweh, saying, “Heal her, God, I beg you!”
14 Yahweh said to Moses, “If her father had but spit in her face, shouldn’t she be ashamed seven days? Let her be shut up outside of the camp seven days, and after that she shall be brought in again.”
15 Miriam was shut up outside of the camp seven days, and the people didn’t travel until Miriam was brought in again. 16 Afterward the people traveled from Hazeroth, and encamped in the wilderness of Paran.

Miriam and Aaron Oppose Moses
12 Miriam(A) and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife,(B) for he had married a Cushite. 2 “Has the Lord spoken only through Moses?” they asked. “Hasn’t he also spoken through us?”(C) And the Lord heard this.(D)
3 (Now Moses was a very humble man,(E) more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.)
4 At once the Lord said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam, “Come out to the tent of meeting, all three of you.” So the three of them went out. 5 Then the Lord came down in a pillar of cloud;(F) he stood at the entrance to the tent and summoned Aaron and Miriam. When the two of them stepped forward, 6 he said, “Listen to my words:
“When there is a prophet among you,
I, the Lord, reveal(G) myself to them in visions,(H)
I speak to them in dreams.(I)
7 But this is not true of my servant Moses;(J)
he is faithful in all my house.(K)
8 With him I speak face to face,
clearly and not in riddles;(L)
he sees the form of the Lord.(M)
Why then were you not afraid
to speak against my servant Moses?”(N)
9 The anger of the Lord burned against them,(O) and he left them.(P)
10 When the cloud lifted from above the tent,(Q) Miriam’s skin was leprous[a]—it became as white as snow.(R) Aaron turned toward her and saw that she had a defiling skin disease,(S) 11 and he said to Moses, “Please, my lord, I ask you not to hold against us the sin we have so foolishly committed.(T) 12 Do not let her be like a stillborn infant coming from its mother’s womb with its flesh half eaten away.”
13 So Moses cried out to the Lord, “Please, God, heal her!(U)”
14 The Lord replied to Moses, “If her father had spit in her face,(V) would she not have been in disgrace for seven days? Confine her outside the camp(W) for seven days; after that she can be brought back.” 15 So Miriam was confined outside the camp(X) for seven days,(Y) and the people did not move on till she was brought back.
16 After that, the people left Hazeroth(Z) and encamped in the Desert of Paran.(AA)
