Nehemijina molitva
1 Ovo je izvještaj Nehemije, Hakalijinog sina:
Dvadesete godine Artakserksove vladavine,[a] u mjesecu Kislevu[b], dok sam bio u palači u gradu Suzi, 2 došao je Hanani, jedan od moje braće, s još nekim ljudima iz Jude. Raspitao sam se kod njih o Židovima, koji su izbjegli progonstvo i ostali u Judi, i o Jeruzalemu.
3 Rekli su mi: »Oni koji su izbjegli progonstvo i ostali u pokrajini Judi u velikoj su nevolji i sramoti. Jeruzalemske su zidine razvaljene, a vrata uništena vatrom.«
4 Kad sam čuo te riječi, sjeo sam i zaplakao. Danima sam tugovao, postio i molio pred Bogom neba.
5 Zatim sam rekao:
»O, BOŽE! Ti si Bog neba—velik i moćan Bog! Čuvaš svoj savez i vjerno iskazuješ ljubav onima koji te vole i vrše tvoje zapovijedi. 6 Poslušaj me i pogledaj! Čuj molitvu svog sluge, dok se danonoćno pred tobom moli za tvoje sluge, za izraelski narod. Priznajem grijehe izraelskog naroda protiv tebe. Priznajem da smo i ja i moja obitelj griješili protiv tebe. 7 Loše smo se odnosili prema tebi. Nismo se držali tvojih zapovijedi, pravila i propisa koje si dao svome slugi Mojsiju.
8 Sjeti se što si rekao svom slugi Mojsiju: ‘Budete li nevjerni, raspršit ću vas među narode. 9 Ali, ako mi se vratite, ako držite i vršite moje zapovijedi—ma bili prognani i na kraj neba—odande ću vas sabrati i dovesti na mjesto koje sam izabrao za prebivalište svome imenu.’
10 Oni su tvoji sluge i tvoj narod koji si otkupio svojom velikom moći i svojom snažnom rukom.
11 O, Gospodaru, pažljivo poslušaj molitvu ovoga tvog sluge i molitvu svih tvojih slugu koji te s radošću štuju. Daj svome slugi da uspije danas, daj da mu kralj bude naklonjen.«
U to sam vrijeme bio kraljev peharnik[c].

Nehemiah’s Prayer
1 The words of Nehemiah son of Hakaliah:
In the month of Kislev(A) in the twentieth year, while I was in the citadel of Susa,(B) 2 Hanani,(C) one of my brothers, came from Judah with some other men, and I questioned them about the Jewish remnant(D) that had survived the exile, and also about Jerusalem.
3 They said to me, “Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.(E)”
4 When I heard these things, I sat down and wept.(F) For some days I mourned and fasted(G) and prayed before the God of heaven. 5 Then I said:
“Lord, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God,(H) who keeps his covenant of love(I) with those who love him and keep his commandments, 6 let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear(J) the prayer(K) your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. I confess(L) the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father’s family, have committed against you. 7 We have acted very wickedly(M) toward you. We have not obeyed the commands, decrees and laws you gave your servant Moses.
8 “Remember(N) the instruction you gave your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter(O) you among the nations, 9 but if you return to me and obey my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather(P) them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for my Name.’(Q)
10 “They are your servants and your people, whom you redeemed by your great strength and your mighty hand.(R) 11 Lord, let your ear be attentive(S) to the prayer of this your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight in revering your name. Give your servant success today by granting him favor(T) in the presence of this man.”

1 Estas são as memórias de Neemias, filho de Hacalias.
A preocupação de Neemias com Jerusalém
No mês de quisleu, no vigésimo ano do reinado do rei Artaxerxes,[a] eu estava na fortaleza de Susã. 2 Hanani, um de meus irmãos, veio me visitar com alguns homens que haviam chegado de Judá. Perguntei-lhes a respeito dos judeus que haviam regressado do cativeiro e da situação em Jerusalém.
3 Eles responderam: “As coisas não vão bem para os que regressaram à província de Judá. Eles estão passando por dificuldades e humilhações. O muro de Jerusalém foi derrubado, e suas portas foram destruídas pelo fogo”.
4 Quando ouvi isso, sentei-me e chorei. Durante alguns dias, lamentei, jejuei e orei ao Deus dos céus. 5 Então disse:
“Ó Senhor, Deus dos céus, Deus grande e temível, que guardas tua aliança de amor leal para com os que te amam e obedecem a teus mandamentos, 6 ouve minha oração! Olha do alto e vê que oro noite e dia por teu povo, Israel. Confesso que temos pecado contra ti. Sim, minha própria família e eu temos pecado! 7 Temos pecado terrivelmente contra ti. Não temos obedecido a teus mandamentos, decretos e estatutos, que nos deste por meio de teu servo Moisés.
8 “Por favor, lembra-te do que disseste a teu servo Moisés: ‘Se forem infiéis a mim, eu os dispersarei entre as nações, 9 mas, se voltarem para mim e obedecerem a meus mandamentos e viverem de acordo com eles, então, mesmo que estejam exilados nos confins da terra,[b] eu os reunirei e os trarei de volta ao lugar que escolhi para estabelecer meu nome’.
10 “O povo que tu resgataste com teu grande poder e com tua forte mão é teu servo. 11 Ó Senhor, por favor, ouve a oração deste teu servo! Ouve as orações de teus servos que se agradam em te honrar. Peço que me concedas êxito hoje e que o rei me seja favorável”.[c]
Nesse tempo, eu era copeiro do rei.
