Nehemiah 11
New International Version
The New Residents of Jerusalem(A)
11 Now the leaders of the people settled in Jerusalem. The rest of the people cast lots to bring one out of every ten of them to live in Jerusalem,(B) the holy city,(C) while the remaining nine were to stay in their own towns.(D) 2 The people commended all who volunteered to live in Jerusalem.
3 These are the provincial leaders who settled in Jerusalem (now some Israelites, priests, Levites, temple servants and descendants of Solomon’s servants lived in the towns of Judah, each on their own property in the various towns,(E) 4 while other people from both Judah and Benjamin(F) lived in Jerusalem):(G)
From the descendants of Judah:
Athaiah son of Uzziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahalalel, a descendant of Perez; 5 and Maaseiah son of Baruch, the son of Kol-Hozeh, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Joiarib, the son of Zechariah, a descendant of Shelah. 6 The descendants of Perez who lived in Jerusalem totaled 468 men of standing.
7 From the descendants of Benjamin:
Sallu son of Meshullam, the son of Joed, the son of Pedaiah, the son of Kolaiah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ithiel, the son of Jeshaiah, 8 and his followers, Gabbai and Sallai—928 men. 9 Joel son of Zikri was their chief officer, and Judah son of Hassenuah was over the New Quarter of the city.
10 From the priests:
Jedaiah; the son of Joiarib; Jakin; 11 Seraiah(H) son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub,(I) the official in charge of the house of God, 12 and their associates, who carried on work for the temple—822 men; Adaiah son of Jeroham, the son of Pelaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of Zechariah, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malkijah, 13 and his associates, who were heads of families—242 men; Amashsai son of Azarel, the son of Ahzai, the son of Meshillemoth, the son of Immer, 14 and his[a] associates, who were men of standing—128. Their chief officer was Zabdiel son of Haggedolim.
15 From the Levites:
Shemaiah son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Bunni; 16 Shabbethai(J) and Jozabad,(K) two of the heads of the Levites, who had charge of the outside work of the house of God; 17 Mattaniah(L) son of Mika, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph,(M) the director who led in thanksgiving and prayer; Bakbukiah, second among his associates; and Abda son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun.(N) 18 The Levites in the holy city(O) totaled 284.
19 The gatekeepers:
Akkub, Talmon and their associates, who kept watch at the gates—172 men.
20 The rest of the Israelites, with the priests and Levites, were in all the towns of Judah, each on their ancestral property.
21 The temple servants(P) lived on the hill of Ophel, and Ziha and Gishpa were in charge of them.
22 The chief officer of the Levites in Jerusalem was Uzzi son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah,(Q) the son of Mika. Uzzi was one of Asaph’s descendants, who were the musicians responsible for the service of the house of God. 23 The musicians(R) were under the king’s orders, which regulated their daily activity.
24 Pethahiah son of Meshezabel, one of the descendants of Zerah(S) son of Judah, was the king’s agent in all affairs relating to the people.
25 As for the villages with their fields, some of the people of Judah lived in Kiriath Arba(T) and its surrounding settlements, in Dibon(U) and its settlements, in Jekabzeel and its villages, 26 in Jeshua, in Moladah,(V) in Beth Pelet,(W) 27 in Hazar Shual,(X) in Beersheba(Y) and its settlements, 28 in Ziklag,(Z) in Mekonah and its settlements, 29 in En Rimmon, in Zorah,(AA) in Jarmuth,(AB) 30 Zanoah,(AC) Adullam(AD) and their villages, in Lachish(AE) and its fields, and in Azekah(AF) and its settlements. So they were living all the way from Beersheba(AG) to the Valley of Hinnom.
31 The descendants of the Benjamites from Geba(AH) lived in Mikmash,(AI) Aija, Bethel(AJ) and its settlements, 32 in Anathoth,(AK) Nob(AL) and Ananiah, 33 in Hazor,(AM) Ramah(AN) and Gittaim,(AO) 34 in Hadid, Zeboim(AP) and Neballat, 35 in Lod and Ono,(AQ) and in Ge Harashim.
36 Some of the divisions of the Levites of Judah settled in Benjamin.

The People Dwelling in Jerusalem
11 Now the leaders of the people dwelt at Jerusalem; the rest of the people cast lots to bring one out of ten to dwell in Jerusalem, (A)the holy city, and nine-tenths were to dwell in other cities. 2 And the people blessed all the men who (B)willingly offered themselves to dwell at Jerusalem.
3 (C)These are the heads of the province who dwelt in Jerusalem. (But in the cities of Judah everyone dwelt in his own possession in their cities—Israelites, priests, Levites, (D)Nethinim, and (E)descendants of Solomon’s servants.) 4 Also (F)in Jerusalem dwelt some of the children of Judah and of the children of Benjamin.
The children of Judah: Athaiah the son of Uzziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahalalel, of the children of (G)Perez; 5 and Maaseiah the son of Baruch, the son of Col-Hozeh, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Joiarib, the son of Zechariah, the son of Shiloni. 6 All the sons of Perez who dwelt at Jerusalem were four hundred and sixty-eight valiant men.
7 And these are the sons of Benjamin: Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Joed, the son of Pedaiah, the son of Kolaiah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ithiel, the son of Jeshaiah; 8 and after him Gabbai and Sallai, nine hundred and twenty-eight. 9 Joel the son of Zichri was their overseer, and Judah the son of [a]Senuah was second over the city.
10 (H)Of the priests: Jedaiah the son of Joiarib, and Jachin; 11 Seraiah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, was the leader of the house of God. 12 Their brethren who did the work of the house were eight hundred and twenty-two; and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pelaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of Zechariah, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah, 13 and his brethren, heads of the fathers’ houses, were two hundred and forty-two; and Amashai the son of Azarel, the son of Ahzai, the son of Meshillemoth, the son of Immer, 14 and their brethren, mighty men of valor, were one hundred and twenty-eight. Their overseer was Zabdiel [b]the son of one of the great men.
15 Also of the Levites: Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Bunni; 16 (I)Shabbethai and (J)Jozabad, of the heads of the Levites, had the oversight of (K)the business outside of the [c]house of God; 17 Mattaniah the son of [d]Micha, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, the leader who began the thanksgiving with prayer; Bakbukiah, the second among his brethren; and Abda the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun. 18 All the Levites in (L)the holy city were two hundred and eighty-four.
19 Moreover the gatekeepers, Akkub, Talmon, and their brethren who kept the gates, were one hundred and seventy-two.
20 And the rest of Israel, of the priests and Levites, were in all the cities of Judah, everyone in his inheritance. 21 (M)But the Nethinim dwelt in Ophel. And Ziha and Gishpa were over the Nethinim.
22 Also the overseer of the Levites at Jerusalem was Uzzi the son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Micha, of the sons of Asaph, the singers in charge of the [e]service of the [f]house of God. 23 For (N)it was the king’s command concerning them that a [g]certain portion should be for the singers, a quota day by day. 24 Pethahiah the son of Meshezabel, of the children of (O)Zerah the son of Judah, was (P)the[h] king’s deputy in all matters concerning the people.
The People Dwelling Outside Jerusalem
25 And as for the villages with their fields, some of the children of Judah dwelt in (Q)Kirjath Arba and its villages, Dibon and its villages, Jekabzeel and its villages; 26 in Jeshua, Moladah, Beth Pelet, 27 Hazar Shual, and Beersheba and its villages; 28 in Ziklag and Meconah and its villages; 29 in En Rimmon, Zorah, Jarmuth, 30 Zanoah, Adullam, and their villages; in Lachish and its fields; in Azekah and its villages. They dwelt from Beersheba to the Valley of Hinnom.
31 Also the children of Benjamin from Geba dwelt in Michmash, Aija, and Bethel, and their villages; 32 in Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah; 33 in Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim; 34 in Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat; 35 in Lod, Ono, and (R)the Valley of Craftsmen. 36 Some of the Judean divisions of Levites were in Benjamin.

Los que se establecieron en Jerusalén
11 Los funcionarios israelitas se quedaron viviendo en Jerusalén, la ciudad santa. En cuanto al resto del pueblo, echaron suertes para seleccionar a una de cada diez personas para que se quedaran viviendo en Jerusalén; los restantes residirían en las demás poblaciones. 2 El pueblo bendijo a todos los que se ofrecieron voluntariamente para ir a vivir a Jerusalén.
3 Los demás israelitas, los sacerdotes, los levitas, los ayudantes del templo, y los descendientes de los servidores de Salomón habitaron en sus respectivas propiedades en los diversos pueblos y ciudades de Judá. Los siguientes son los jefes de provincias que se quedaron viviendo en Jerusalén:
4-6 De la tribu de Judá:
Ataías hijo de Uzías, hijo de Zacarías, hijo de Amarías, hijo de Sefatías, hijo de Malalel, del clan de Fares.
Maseías hijo de Baruc, hijo de Coljozé, hijo de Jazaías, hijo de Adaías, hijo de Joyarib, hijo de Zacarías, hijo de Siloní.
Estos fueron los cuatrocientos sesenta y ocho descendientes de Fares que se fueron a vivir a Jerusalén.
7-9 De la tribu de Benjamín: Salú hijo de Mesulán, hijo de Joed, hijo de Pedaías, hijo de Colaías, hijo de Maseías, hijo de Itiel, hijo de Isaías, junto con sus hermanos Gabay y Salay. En total eran novecientos veintiocho. Joel hijo de Zicrí, era el jefe de ellos, y Judá hijo de Senuá era el segundo jefe de la ciudad.
10-14 De los sacerdotes: Jedaías hijo de Joyarib, Jaquín, Seraías hijo de Jilquías, hijo de Mesulán, hijo de Sadoc, hijo de Merayot, hijo de Ajitob, que era el jefe del templo de Dios, y sus ochocientos veintidós parientes que hacían la obra del templo. También estaban Adaías hijo de Jeroán, hijo de Pelalías, hijo de Amsí, hijo de Zacarías, hijo de Pasur, hijo de Malquías, junto con sus parientes, que eran jefes de familia. En total eran doscientos cuarenta y dos.
Además, Amsay hijo de Azarel, hijo de Ajzay, hijo de Mesilemot, hijo de Imer, y sus parientes. En total eran ciento veintiocho hombres fuertes. El jefe de ellos era Zabdiel hijo de Guedolín.
15-17 De los levitas: Semaías hijo de Jasub, hijo de Azricán, hijo de Jasabías, hijo de Buní; Sabetay y Jozabad, que estaban a cargo de la obra en la parte exterior del templo; Matanías hijo de Micaías, hijo de Zabdí, hijo de Asaf, que dirigía los cantos de acción de gracias a la hora de la oración; Bacbuquías, que era el segundo entre sus hermanos, y Abdá hijo de Samúa, hijo de Galal, hijo de Jedutún. 18 En total había doscientos ochenta y cuatro levitas en Jerusalén.
19 Había además ciento setenta y dos porteros dirigidos por Acub, Talmón y otros de su clan. 20 Los demás sacerdotes, levitas y el resto del pueblo vivían con sus familias en las demás poblaciones de Judá, de acuerdo con la asignación que se les había hecho. 21 Los siervos del templo (cuyos jefes eran Zijá y Guispa), vivían en Ofel.
22-23 El supervisor de los levitas en Jerusalén era Uzi hijo de Baní, hijo de Jasabías, hijo de Matanías, hijo de Micaías, descendiente de Asaf. El clan de Asaf tenía a su cargo el canto en el templo. Fue el rey David quien estableció, por decreto, las tareas de cada día para los cantores.
24 Petaías hijo de Mesezabel, descendiente de Zera hijo de Judá, ayudaba en todo lo que se refería a la administración pública.
Otras ciudades habitadas
25-30 Algunas de las poblaciones donde el pueblo de Judá estableció su residencia fueron: Quiriat Arbá, Dibón, Yecabsel (además de todos los pueblos vecinos), Jesúa; Moladá, Bet Pelet, Jazar Súal, Berseba (y todos los pueblos circunvecinos), Siclag, Mecona (y los pueblos que las rodean), Enrimón, Zora, Jarmut, Zanoa, Adulán y sus pueblos; Laquis y sus tierras, y Azeca con sus pueblos.
Así que el pueblo se esparció desde Berseba hasta el valle de Hinón.
31-35 El pueblo de la tribu de Benjamín vivió en: Gueba, Micmás, Aías, Betel (y sus pueblos), Anatot, Nob, Ananías, Jazor, Ramá, Guitayin, Jadid, Seboyín, Nebalat, Lod y Ono, y el valle de los artífices.
36 Algunos de los levitas que vivían en Judá se fueron a vivir con la tribu de Benjamín.
