Nehemiah’s Grief for the Exiles

1 The words of Nehemiah son of Hacaliah:

Now it happened in the month of Chislev, in the ^[a]twentieth year [of the ^[b]Persian king], as I was in the ^[c]capitol of Susa,

² in those days when King Ahasuerus sat on his royal throne which was at the citadel in ^[a]Susa [the capital of the Persian Empire],

8 In the ^[a]third year of the reign of King Belshazzar a [second] vision appeared to me, Daniel, [this was two years] after the one that first appeared to me. ² I looked in the vision and it seemed that I was at the citadel of ^[b]Susa, [the capital of Persia], which is in the province of Elam; and I looked in the vision and I saw myself by the Ulai Canal.
