The Reforms of Nehemiah

Now before this, (A)Eliashib the priest, having authority over the storerooms of the house of our God, was allied with (B)Tobiah. And he had prepared for him a large room, (C)where previously they had stored the grain offerings, the frankincense, the articles, the tithes of grain, the new wine and oil, (D)which were commanded to be given to the Levites and singers and gatekeepers, and the offerings for the priests. Before this, Eliashib the priest had been put in charge of the storerooms(A) of the house of our God. Some time later I asked his permission and came back to Jerusalem. Here I learned about the evil thing Eliashib(E) had done in providing Tobiah(F) a room in the courts of the house of God. I was greatly displeased and threw all Tobiah’s household goods out of the room.(G) I gave orders to purify the rooms,(H) and then I put back into them the equipment of the house of God, with the grain offerings and the incense.(I)
