Oración de Nehemías por los desterrados
1 Palabras de Nehemías, hijo de Hacalías(A).
Aconteció que en el mes de Quisleu(B), en el año veinte(C), estando yo en la fortaleza de Susa(D), 2 vino Hananí(E), uno de mis hermanos, con[a] algunos hombres de Judá, y les pregunté por los judíos, los que habían escapado y habían sobrevivido a la cautividad, y por Jerusalén. 3 Y me dijeron: El remanente, los que sobrevivieron a la cautividad(F) allí en la provincia, están en gran aflicción y oprobio(G), y la muralla de Jerusalén está derribada y sus puertas quemadas a fuego(H).
4 Y[b] cuando oí estas palabras, me senté y lloré, e hice duelo algunos días, y estuve ayunando y orando(I) delante del Dios del cielo(J). 5 Y dije: Te ruego, oh Señor, Dios del cielo, el grande y temible Dios, que guarda el pacto y la misericordia(K) para con aquellos que le aman y guardan sus mandamientos(L), 6 que estén atentos tus oídos y abiertos tus ojos para oír la oración de tu siervo, que yo hago ahora delante de ti(M) día y noche por los hijos de Israel tus siervos, confesando los pecados que los hijos de Israel hemos cometido contra ti(N); sí, yo y la casa de mi padre hemos pecado(O). 7 Hemos procedido perversamente contra ti y no hemos guardado los mandamientos, ni los estatutos, ni las ordenanzas(P) que mandaste a tu siervo Moisés(Q). 8 Acuérdate ahora de la palabra que ordenaste a tu siervo Moisés, diciendo: «Si sois infieles, yo os dispersaré entre los pueblos(R); 9 pero si volvéis a mí y guardáis mis mandamientos y los cumplís, aunque vuestros desterrados estén en los confines de los cielos(S), de allí los recogeré y los traeré(T) al lugar que he escogido para hacer morar allí mi nombre(U)». 10 Y ellos son tus siervos y tu pueblo, los que tú redimiste con tu gran poder y con tu mano poderosa(V). 11 Te ruego, oh Señor, que tu oído esté atento ahora a la oración de tu siervo y a la oración de tus siervos(W) que se deleitan en reverenciar[c] tu nombre; haz prosperar hoy a tu siervo, y concédele favor delante de este hombre.

Nehemja återvänder till Jerusalem
Dåliga nyheter från Jerusalem
1 Nehemjas, Hakaljas sons, berättelse.
I månaden kislev, under det tjugonde året[a], var jag i Susans borg. 2 Då kom Hanani, en av mina bröder, dit tillsammans med några män från Juda. Jag frågade dem om judarna som var kvar efter fångenskapen och hur det stod till i Jerusalem.
3 De svarade mig: ”De som är kvar efter fångenskapen och befinner sig i provinsen är i nöd och vanära. Jerusalems mur är nedriven, och dess portar uppbrända.”
Nehemja ber för Israel
4 När jag fick höra detta, satte jag mig ner och grät. Under flera dagar sörjde och fastade jag och bad till himlens Gud.
5 Jag sa:
”Herre, himlens Gud, du store och fruktansvärde Gud, du håller förbundet och är nådig mot dem som älskar dig och håller dina bud. 6 Låt ditt öra och dina ögon vara öppna för din tjänares bön, som din tjänare natt och dag ber för dina tjänare israeliterna. Jag bekänner de synder som vi israeliter har begått mot dig. Även jag och min fars familj har syndat mot dig. 7 Vi har gjort mycket ont gentemot dig. Vi har inte lytt dina bud, stadgar och lagar som du gav din tjänare Mose.
8 Kom ihåg vad du sa till din tjänare Mose: ’Om ni är trolösa ska jag skingra er bland folken, 9 men om ni vänder tillbaka till mig och håller mina bud och följer dem, ska jag samla er igen, även om ni blivit förvisade bort till de mest avlägsna delar av världen. Jag ska samla dem och föra dem tillbaka till den plats jag har utvalt, där mitt namn ska bo.’
10 De är ju dina tjänare och ditt folk som du befriat genom din stora makt och styrka. 11 Herre, hör din tjänares bön och dina tjänares böner, deras som gläder sig i att frukta ditt namn. Ge nu mig, din tjänare, framgång och låt mig få möta välvilja inför denne man.”

1 The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it came to pass in the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace,
2 That Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.
3 And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.
4 And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,
5 And said, I beseech thee, O Lord God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:
6 Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father's house have sinned.
7 We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses.
8 Remember, I beseech thee, the word that thou commandedst thy servant Moses, saying, If ye transgress, I will scatter you abroad among the nations:
9 But if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there.
10 Now these are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy strong hand.
11 O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king's cupbearer.
