³³ A people that you do not know will eat what your land and labor produce, and you will have nothing but cruel oppression^(A) all your days.^(B)

⁴⁸ therefore in hunger and thirst,^(A) in nakedness and dire poverty, you will serve the enemies the Lord sends against you. He will put an iron yoke^(B) on your neck^(C) until he has destroyed you.

³³ They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants^(A) and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”

⁸ and said: “As far as possible, we have bought^(A) back our fellow Jews who were sold to the Gentiles. Now you are selling your own people, only for them to be sold back to us!” They kept quiet, because they could find nothing to say.^(B)

⁵¹ They will devour the young of your livestock and the crops of your land until you are destroyed. They will leave you no grain, new wine^(A) or olive oil,^(B) nor any calves of your herds or lambs of your flocks until you are ruined.^(C)

³⁹ You will plant vineyards and cultivate them but you will not drink the wine^(A) or gather the grapes, because worms will eat^(B) them.^(C)
