³⁶ Behold, ^(A)we are slaves this day; in the land that you gave to our fathers to enjoy its fruit and its good gifts, behold, we are slaves.

^9 (A)For we are slaves. Yet our God has not forsaken us in our slavery, ^(B)but has extended to us his steadfast love before the kings of Persia, to grant us some reviving to set up the house of our God, to repair its ruins, and to give us protection^[a] in Judea and Jerusalem.

⁴⁸ therefore you shall serve your enemies whom the Lord will send against you, in hunger and thirst, in nakedness, and lacking everything. And he ^(A)will put a yoke of iron on your neck until he has destroyed you.

⁸ Nevertheless, they shall be servants to him, ^(A)that they may know my service and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.”
