⁶⁴ These sought their registration among those enrolled in the genealogies, but it was not found there, so they were excluded from the priesthood as unclean;

⁵ Then my God put it into my mind to assemble the nobles and the officials and the people to be enrolled by genealogy. And I found the book of the genealogy of those who were the first to come back, and I found the following written in it:

9 So all Israel was enrolled by genealogies, and these are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel. And Judah was taken into exile in Babylon because of their unfaithfulness.^(A)

²⁹ Remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood, the covenant of the priests and the Levites.^(A)

¹¹ “But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing a wedding robe,^{(A) 12} and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding robe?’ And he was speechless.^{(B) 13} Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’^(C)

¹¹ Later the other young women^[a] came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’^{(A) 12} But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I do not know you.’

³ “If it is the anointed priest who sins, thus bringing guilt on the people, he shall offer for the sin that he has committed a bull of the herd as a purification offering to the Lord.^(A)
