²³ Neither I nor my brothers nor my men nor the guards with me took off our clothes; each had his weapon, even when he went for water.^[a]

¹⁰ But by the grace^(A) of God I am what I am, and his grace to me^(B) was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them^(C)—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.^(D)

² I put in charge of Jerusalem my brother Hanani,^(A) along with Hananiah^(B) the commander of the citadel,^(C) because he was a man of integrity and feared^(D) God more than most people do.

¹⁶ Instead,^(A) I devoted myself to the work on this wall. All my men were assembled there for the work; we^[a] did not acquire any land.
